Just wanted to let all of my supporters know that I did email the president of the university about this issue. She is traveling now through early August but was very concerned and wanted me to meet with her assistant. I spoke with the assistant via phone (because I had taken a vacation day) on Wednesday. I explained the situation the best I could while being distracted by my nursing LO.
I received an email from the assistant Friday saying she had passed my story on to the president and she was "on it." We'll see what happens there.
In the meantime I was told by two of my fave co workers that my awful boss has applied for a new job elsewhere (I already knew she was looking ), and that a university called their bosses to check her references! So fingers crossed there!
I am considering applying for new jobs myself. There is one I a, qualified for at the nearest community college. It would pay more, but I'd have a slight commute. I would have to give up nursing my LO at lunchtime, however it looks like I wouldn't have to work weekends or evenings any more! I feel torn because I'd be leaving several things at my university - friends, great health insurance, paid parental leave for LO 2 someday, and the opportunity to get a masters for free.
Before you jump ship wait out to see how accomodating your current workplace can be. Yiu have some great benefits and pumping during lunch time will likely help you BF your LO longer.
Beyond the awful boss, I don't think I can stay in my position long term with small children. The demands of evening and weekend work, and suddenly staying late or coming in early aren't going to work. I like your advice though.
