We waited until he was over 6 months old and went straight to finger foods.

We tried rice cereal, which he hated. I tried it too- nasty, so we went right to purees until I got more comfortable to try BLW.

we just started solids this week at 6.5 months but scared off by the gagging associated with finger foods and are mashing up what we give. not really a puree though, so somewhere in between purees and finger foods. I basically want to work my way up to BLW.

Purées first at 5.5 months, moved onto some finger foods around a month later and now at 8 months he's almost exclusively on finger/table foods.

we skipped rice/cereal, at just shy of six months we started a mix of purees/finger foods (75/25)...banana, avocado, apple, and baby mum mums are the only finger foods he's tried. everything else has been purred.

A mix of homemade chunky purees and finger foods and a silicone/mesh feeder starting at six months. We've had no gagging issues, started with avocado.

@Mrs. Chen: I have a love affair with the baby brezza. it's so easy to use - and I even use it to steam veggies for hubs and myself while I cook other dishes!
we started with purees and now at 8 months, she'll eat finger foods as well (after she eats a few oz of pureed food). but I don't do BLW in the sense of - here is a banana. I give her bite size pieces of the foods. call me paranoid but hey! im paranoid

We started with a mix of pureed food, breast milk and brown rice cereal all together. Kind of my compromise of wanting her to get the iron from the ceral but not have it simply be 'empty carbs'.

I'm cheap and didn't want to buy anything special for her so I did puree first.

@SORRYCHARLIE: good to know!! i was on the fence for the longest time about the brezza. everyone was telling me not waste money on a baby food maker and buy a regular blender/processor instead but i just love the convenience of it steaming and blending all in one. plus, i'm a big slacker in the kitchen! i'm all for saving time and less dishes to wash. can't wait to try it!
