This is a spinoff to the post about dreading breastfeeding. I thought it would be good for all anxious moms-to-be (who are planning to BF) to know that while yes, there is the possibility of a lot of problems/issues, it actually doesn't happen to everyone! and i would venture to guess that it doesn't happen to most people. I think we just see all these posts where people have issues because it's when we have issues that we need to talk about it and ask for help/advice/comfort.

So this post is not intended for us to brag about how easy it has been, but rather to show others who are worried about it that it will likely be a positive experience and to give them some confidence in this belief!

I basically had no problems with latching since the first moment after my c-section when i was all drowsy and could only remember one tidbit of info from the course i took "head, neck and back must be aligned!" and it worked

I did struggle a little bit in the first few days with getting him in the right position and making sure his mouth was open wide enough, but i figure it was the type of struggle when you have when you do anything new - and it was just a matter of getting comfortable and used to it.

I did not have mastitis, thrush, cracked/bleeding nipples, low supply....anything. And i actually enjoyed it more than i thought possible (i hadn't really thought about the bond/enjoyment factor at all when i was pregnant actually).

And i was worried about everything going wrong, mostly not being able to "do it" properly!

What i found helped me prepare was the course I took at the hospital (a one session 3 hour course in the evening), plus reading in all my pregnancy books the little sections on BF - it just helped to reinforce what i was taught in the course regarding positions, latching, etc. Also, when i was in the hospital, there were LCs checking in a couple of times a day so i always took advantage to ask them a question or two and i attended the free 30 minute course in the hospital after LO was born - all these together made me feel super prepared and informed.

So let's hear some other positive stories!
