Personally, we're just planning to move LO to a normal twin bed and let the baby use his crib. Even though it's convertible, I would rather get him used to a normal bed instead of doing yet another transition. So if I were you, I'd go for the normal crib and a nice glider.

We ended up buying a convertible crib because it was the one we liked in our budget, but I actually don't really care if it converts to a toddler bed and full size bed. I figure it costs almost the same to buy a twin bed as the conversion kit anyway sometimes. So our plan is to move this LO to a twin when baby #2 comes along (probably 2-3 years later). So I say, if you like the Ikea crib, go for it.

As for the glider, I found I really needed to sit in them and try them out, and the one I liked best actually was a lot less than some of the others, so I got lucky that way! It's not the prettiest by any means, though, so it's going to be specifically baby furniture, not like, transition to another room and keep forever. For around $300, if it's last through nursing and reading to two babies I'm happy.

@deerylou: we used the gliding motion for the first three months to get him to sleep but even now I almost always nurse him there - its been covered in spit up so I'm glad (even though I always spot bot it) that it isn't a super nice piece of furniture or really expensive!

Go for the glider.

We got a graco crib that we really liked and it can be convertible but we just bought her a twin and will keep the crib as a crib for #2.

normal crib. we bought a pricey convertible for charlie, but he ended up going straight to a floor bed. olive is using the crib now so it worked out, but i would just get an ikea crib and a nice glider. we have used out glider every single day for the past 3 1/2 years!

I would get standard. We shopped at babies r us because my grandma bought her crib and that's where she wanted to get it from. Who am I to argue with a free crib? But I don't even think they offered standard. We have #2 on the way, and we just ordered LO a toddler bed that converts to a full bed later. We'll probably convert the crib to a toddler bed for baby #2 so we will get some use out of it.... but I hear they don't stay in toddler beds long anyway.

@deerylou: Honestly I never used the glider! If you are not sold on having one maybe you could hold off and see how nursing goes at first in your regular furniture and bedroom? We nursed exclusively in the side-lying position after the first few weeks so the glider wouldn't have worked anyway for that purpose (DS didn't like it for rocking either).

@deerylou: Yeah, it's the lack of arm support that really was the killer ... just not a spot where you could really curl up.
