I'm in full-blown nesting mode, and washed all the bottles today (we have 3 tommee tippee and 4 avent).
did you sterilize your bottles before using, or just hand wash? we do not have a dishwasher.
I plan to boil the nipples and pacifiers before use.

Yes, you're supposed to boil everything before first use. Did they not come with instructions? Most say to boil bottles first then drop in nipples.

@regberadaisy: nope, the avent were all freebies, the paper that came with them didn't have instructions

I just read some long article the other day about how boiling is no longer necessary. it was for our mothers and grandmothers, but not anymore. I wish I could remember where I saw it.

I boiled everything the first time and I do it every few months.

I never boiled, we had a steam sterilizer that I used for a really long time.

@photojane: I think that is repeatedly. Like you dont have to sterilize daily anymore. But you still should before the first use. For example, I was in BRU and saw a mom let her kid open a box of bottles, play with one (including suck on it) drop it on the floor repeatedly, rub it against the nasty shopping cart, then PUT IT BACK IN THE BOX when she was ready to leave, and left it on the shelf. I was disgusted. So someone was going to buy this box of bottles (Tommee Tippee) and have germs and bacteria all over them. Ick. I brought it to CS. Also, when I opened my boxes of TT bottles, they had dust on them, probably from the packaging. I wouldnt risk not sterilizing them at least once.
@sorrycharlie: I used Tommee Tippee and I sterilized them before the first use. Boil them, or you can use a steam sterilizer or the medela sterilizing bags. I probably sterilized them once a month after that just for the sake of doing it.

@LivsMama: omg, ew to that customer!!! Some people...

@sorrycharlie: seriously. I also watched someone else open a bottle of formula, take a bottle off the shelf, pour some into the bottle, and give it to her kid. She put the empty box and opened formula on the shelf and walked away. That happened when I was pregnant and I was APPALLED. She did it right in front of me! Mind you I was not in the best location...which I found out after I left. DH was like "WHY were you THERE?!" I was on my way home...kinda...lol

We plan to boil everything before first use. And we registered for a sanitizer so if we get that we will probably use it once a week for ongoing use.

I sterilize all of LO's pacifiers, bottles, nipples, and my pump parts once a day. I love my Phillips Advent steam sterilizer!!
