If any of you live in that area or have lived there, how much did daycare cost you, I'm also curious to know if you liked that area and if you dont mind sharing the town you lived in too.
DH's job has the opportunity to transfer to that area and thats what has sparked my curiosity.

sadly, I can't answer any of your questions -- we lived in Austin for 2 years pre-kids. But I LOVE it and would jump at the opportunity to move there!

We have friends that live in Manor. The cost of living is very affordable, from what I understand. I'm not sure how much they've paid for daycare but they were able to buy a house on a single teacher's salary. They love it there.

I live south of Austin in Buda. It's an adorable little town and definitely more affordable than city of Austin. I'm not sure about daycare costs because I SAH with my DD. I loooove Austin, but the traffic is awful, so you really need to choose where to live based on where your workplace will be because seriously, traffic is a B. If you have any other questions, just let me know!
ETA: Buda is pronounced B-you-dah. Haha. Not like Buddha. Just so you know, all the names here are not pronounced like you would think they should be!

I live in Austin and LOVE it! However I'm from Texas and have family here. I'm not sure it would necessarily live up to the hype if I were moving here from somewhere else.
Anyway, I totally agree with @abbydabbydoodlebug that you want to minimize the commute as much as possible. Where is the job located? It can take an hour to go just a few miles because the highways get so much traffic during rush hour. There is a commuter train that goes to some of the suburbs, depending on where y'all are going to work.
I live in East Austin, not too far from downtown. Daycare costs $1100/month for my infant and $850 for my 3-year-old. Hope that helps! Happy to answer any questions.

Hi! Austin is awesome! We are up north in Leander. The schools area good and it's really easy access for the northern tech corridor. I have a 3 year old and daycare has averaged 800-1100 /mo depending on age. He has been at the best of the best daycares, I know some moms that are paying 600/month for in home.

Hahah yeah the names of towns never seem to line up with the pronounciations. Thats a useful tip about the traffic. I believe the office is closer to the south of austin though, but its still useful to know.

Nice! I'd look into the Great Hills area. We considered it for a hot second but decided to stay closer in. It's pretty around the Arboretum area! Let me know if you need realtor recommendations - they can help a lot with getting the lay of the land.

@Mrsbells: I'm pregnant with our first but have been doing daycare research since we'll need part time care. It's ranging about the same as what @wheres_c: is quoting for us down south too, $600-$1000 depending on if it's an in home or center!
We really love it here though we stay away from downtown during busy times (which is starting to seem like ALL the time these days)
But it's great to live so close to so many places to visit and eat! Buda is a great little town and we've loved living here so far!

OP, if the office is in the arboretum,that's a great part off town. I used to work at a daycare in Cedar park and lived in that part of town for a while. There's lots of good neighborhoods in that part of town. Lots of kid friendly parks and activities in Cedar park and round rock.

@Mrsbells: Kyle was ok, was only there for a year and it's really growing! We just prefer just to be a little closer to Austin and some better schools. Round Rock is excellent and so are the schools! If DH's job didn't move us so far south, we would have bought our home up there. The restaurants were always so busy though
no matter what tme we went, they have some really good ones up there which was great.

@Mrsbells: we rented in round rock prior to buying in Cedar Park/Leander. Round rock/Wells Branch area was great and B went to an amazing daycare there. Round Rock is great if you work off of I35 but not so great if work off 183.
Teravista is probably the best round rock subdivision.

@wheres_c: thank you. That's useful information. Yes i would be working too. But my work involves going to client locations which can change often so we won't plan around my actual office.
