Basically, newborns were given a small amount of formula via syringe in the first few days. Once mom's milk came it, they stopped. Those moms were more likely to be breastfeeding at 6 months and one year. It was a small study, though. I can see how knowing your baby is getting enough in those first few days can be comforting.
