When you started teaching ABCs did you distinguish between upper and lower case right away?
Hoping there are some kinder teachers amongst us!

You're supposed to, according to my mom (retired kindergarten aide).

I am no expert, but we do teach both together.
I found some really great videos on youtube from "storybots". They do a little song for each letter of the alphabet and they use both upper and lower case. All 3 of our boys have enjoyed watching the videos! Personally, I think they're cute too.

@.twist.: My LO loves Storybots! But for now he will only watch the ones with his face...

@Mrs Green Grass: haha I can see how that would be enticing. So far, none of them know about those ones yet!

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom - my son became obsessed with this book when he started preschool at 2.9yrs old. He can write and read upper and lowercase and I swear it's from that book. There's a song, too. (I had to google it when he started singing the words in the car on the ride home, I had no idea what he was talking about, haha - tons of YouTube videos with the song)

She only knows uppercase as of now, but there is a show on Netflix she likes which teaches many different things. Uppercase, lowercase, and letter sounds. It is called "leapfrog phonics farm". It is pretty cute!

@.twist.: @Mrs Green Grass: Did you know there's a StoryBots app (FREE!)?! L is stupid obsessed with them, and I sing the songs at work all day

We did, when she started showing an interest in the alphabet at around 20 months. I just told her one is the Big A, the other Baby a. She didn't seem to have any confusion or problem distinguishing between them.

I heard from two different educators to teach lowercase first... But it just kind of happened that he has been learning both. He can recognize over 50% of the alphabet in both upper and lowercase. He learned a lot of his letters and sounds from endless alphabet, and I think they use both lower and uppercase.

We taught both together. Big A, little a. There's the Dr. Seuss ABCs book that helped us.

@swurlygurl: Oh yes. D knows the difference between the "yellow one" and the "Christmas" and "Halloween" ones and he can find it on my phone. : )
@rachiecakes: I didn't know about the song!

@swurlygurl: I actually played the Big Brown Bear (not free anymore) during a staff meeting with my principal's face!

@mrsjazz: Oh yes, that book was great for helping to teach both at the same time! We must have read it 3x a day, no joke. I think I have it memorized...

@Mrs Green Grass: Haha! That's hilarious. Now I want to use my coworkers faces

@rachiecakes: LO loves Chicka Chicka Boom Boom! This is how we taught him the alphabet too!
