LO1 is in K so this is the first year I have the opportunity to select specific programs for her summer activities week by week (as opposed to her regular day care and preschool). I'm excited since she's never really had a summer break before but I'm feeling overwhelmed.

The only option that works neatly with DH and my work schedule is an extension of her after school care. The feedback I've gotten sounds like that gets old fast. There are more exciting sounding options at the zoo, nature center, local Girl Scout property, etc. They involve driving longer distances in traffic and later drop off or earlier pick up times.

The few people I've talked to at my office has enrolled their kids in 3-4 different programs per summer and sort of flexed their schedules to make the longer commutes and weird pick up/drop off times. Fortunately my boss will be doing this so he will be pretty understanding. DH is giving me side eye about the 'extra' programs and seems to think we should just stick with the regular after school program.

How have you/will you handle it?

If DD's opinion matters she plans to stay at home by herself watching TV. She promises to clean the house and make dinner - without using the stove.
