and I lost about 3 ounces of defrosted milk. I've frozen a lot of milk in my day, and that's the first time that's ever happened!
Have you had a lot of leaks in your milk bags?

I have once before- but the frozen bag fell out of the freezer onto my foot.
Now I defrost them in a little bowl in the fridge just in case!

I had a bag leak as I was running it under warm water at the sink! I had just started and noticed the water wasn't running clear. Caught it fairly quickly but lost about 1 oz. =\ I saved it by sticking the bag inside a ziploc to finish defrosting.

Weird. Do you think it got punctured in the freezer? Or that it was a defective bag?
I never had a prob with my Lansinoh bags..

I haven't had very many bags that get holes, but a couple & it stinks! I love my lansinoh bags though, I've tried several other brands!

I froze dozens of bags of milk in lansinoh bags without a problem. I also usually froze 8 ounces in each bag too.

@Rubies: you know i wasn't that sad. i've actually been building a decent stockpile lately. i'd love to continue to give her breastmilk after i wean. i would even continue pumping for a long time after weaning!
@chopsuey119: i think it might have been a defective bag? i've frozen tons and tons of milk because i pumped exclusively pretty much for charlie and have never had a problem.

Never had a Lanisoh leak, but friends whose baby I was pumping for bought me some bags that leaked all the time!

Yep, I had one once which is why I always thaw the frozen bags inside a larger ziplock bag!! Used Lansinoh bags exclusively as well. I don't think I ever got another leak but I still used the ziploc bags religiously. Drop frozen bag into ziploc, run hot tap water over the whole thing.

I just found out from our nanny that it had happened to her 3 times that the bags leaked.... 2 from medela and 1 from lansinoh. ouch :...( 15 oz of milk wasted...
I suspect there will be more torn blocks because those milk bags always fall out on me when I open the freezer door (I have plenty saved I barely have a freezer now because they took up 70% of space)
@mrs. wagon: I thought about thawing the bag inside a zip lock bag too, but wouldn't the milk get contaminated anyway because the zip lock bags are not sterilized ? Or do you think it doesn't matter?

@irene: That's a good point, but we didn't sterilize our bottles with every wash (we'd wash with dishwashing liquid between each use, but only sterilize about once every two weeks or so) so we weren't concerned about the insides of the bags.

This morning I woke up to yet another hole in my lansinoh bag, this is the third one in three weeks- So far I've wasted 18 ounces of milk!!! My hard work is going (lliterally) down the drain.
