Yup. We're either moving when she gets to school age or sending her to private school. End of story unless a good school happens to open up in our area.

We would really prefer the kids go to a high-performing private Cathoilic school, but we we have to relocate in order for that to happen. So, at the moment, school is on the back burner for us until we move to a new area.

I dont have a LO yet, but schools was definitely at the top of the list when we were looking at where to buy, we picked an area where the public school ranks top 5% of the state. I just recently learned about Montessori and find it very interesting and love the idea of it, however, I feel that if I were to start with a Montessori school, it would have to continue through highschool and not just for preschool. But given that they are 18-20k a year around here, I just dont think it's feasible. Maybe if we had spent a little less on the house to live in this town for the schools, we may have been able to consider and afford it.

My friend just posted on facebook about a school she's sending her son too, it's a school for the arts and it looks amazing. But we live right down the street from a very good school, which is part of why we bought this house. But LO is only one so we've decided not to worry about it until she gets older... things can change by then anyway.

No LO yet - when we bought our house we weren't even planning to have kids, ever. But we decided to buy within walking distance of a very good public school, just in case. After discussing our own experiences, we're looking more seriously at Catholic or other private schools or even paying tuition for public school in a different district. We'd like our child to be exposed to more diversity, more academic opportunities, and more progressive attitudes than what we think they'd get from the local public school. The kids in the school strike us as very homogenous and bored, not a recipe for success.
