Yay! Hope they get you in for some quick testing to hopefully help this one be sticky!!

So the nurse I spoke with this morning didn't want me to come in for testing since I haven't missed my period. I specifically asked for progesterone... She's double checking with my OB. I guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens.

@winniebee: Congrats!! Hopefully, they can get you in, and get you progesterone if needed!

@coopsmama: I'm just not sure how far to push it....

@winniebee: congrats!
If you really want your progesterone tested, then push for it. You have to be your own advocate, especially considering you have had two recent losses

@winniebee: Congrats! Sometimes we need to be our own advocates, so I say push it! What's the harm?! It's a simple bloodtest and if it's low, it's so easy to get meds. I don't see why some OB's fight it, especially when the patient asks for it. Completely frustrates me..

@NorthStar: @QBbride: so I did ask for it and this particular nurse was very dismissive. I'm pretty disappointed since my OB is typically very proactive. I asked her to confer with my OB but I haven't heard back yet.

@winniebee: Hopefully they get back to you! I hate to say it but with your loss and the 2 recent, I think you have a good reason!

@winniebee: That's really frustrating. If you don't hear back today, I'd call back tomorrow and keep insisting that you want to come in for testing and that you want to do everything you can to ensure this pregnancy's success. Sorry you're dealing with dismissive nurses.

@winniebee: all my thoughts are with you that this is the one that sticks

This is bizarre. Nurse called and said they would order me prometrium if I wanted....but that they don’t check progesterone in early pregnancy. She said it's not typically done and doesn’t mean anything either way...but sometimes women with 3+ losses take it to try and maintain pregnancy. I'm confused....thinking why would I take them if I haven't demonstrated a need for them? I understand that progesterone could be a problem, particularly because I'm still nursing (just twice, very little each time)...but it seems like I shouldn't just take them "in case." I'm not sure.

@winniebee: Congratulations! I agree it sounds a bit odd but I would consider starting the order and then discussing with your OB when you have yor appointment. I had my progesterone checked (and was low) after two losses. It was around maybe 5 weeks?

@T.H.O.U.: were you still nursing when you had your losses? I've been trying to wean and we arent actively TTC (but not preventing) and this keeps happening before I've weaned!

@winniebee: My pregnancy was from IVF and taking progesterone is standard. I'd never had a prior loss and my progesterone was always fine when it was tested (both when I was ttc and pregnant). I still did injectible and suppository progesterone throughout the first trimester, as instructed by my RE. As far as I'm concerned, there's no harm in taking them just in case, but I know everyone has different comfort levels with meds during pregnancy. Going through IVF, I was obviously comfortable with a lot of medications and going with the plan my dr laid out.

@twodoghouse: thanks for sharing! yeah I talked at length with the nurse about it and she said progesterone is really common with fertility treatments but less so in other oregnanceis. I didn't tell her about hellobee My husband is just getting home from work so will get his thoughts on it before deciding either way.

@winniebee: as far as I know, some doctors like progesterone and some think it doesn't do anything. But I think most would agree that it doesn't do anything to hurt a pregnancy...
Good luck with your decision!
