If you were diagnosed with thrush and prescribed diflucan, how long did you take it for? My LC and OB's opinions differ on the length of treatment (14 days vs 7 days).

It was a while ago but I'm pretty sure my OB told me to take it for 7 days and if I wasn't better, to do another round of 7 days. In your position, I would trust your OBs. LCs are great for helping with lots of things but they are not medical doctors and can not write prescriptions.

@Tidybee: I think I did have to take the full 14 days (plus use nystatin).... but it was almost two years ago so I'm a little fuzzy on details.

Make sure you wash any of your nursing bras with vinegar or bleach! Same if you have reusable breast pads!

Me!
I just finished 14 days of difulcan and the thrush totally came back... So so sad.
I am going to cut all sugar and wheat and eat lots of probiotic foods and only wear bras once for a week and see if I can kick this.
I am the only one with symptoms at this point. LOs cleared up with cream about a month ago.
So frustrating. I need to be able to save my pumped milk again...

I'm so sorry to hear that you're dealing with thrush. I had it with my first son. I believe I did 2 rounds of diflucan, both 7 days long. My son was on nystatin too. So much washing. So much boiling of binkies, bottles, pump parts. So much pain. I hope you've caught it early and you don't have to deal with it for too long. Keep your breasts dry. Let them air out after each feed. And don't use too much balm. I found that the breeding ground I created for the yeast (along with other factors...) was the use of too much lanolin, breast pads, and not enough fresh air.

ok - so i'm thinking I'm going to just ask for 14 days. It seems like that might be the best chance to fight this off for good...hopefully. @maddyz: you poor thing. I'm attempting the yeast and dairy free diet but it's really hard.
