My LO just turned 1 (HOORAY!) and I am trying to slowly wean him off the formula/breastmilk to cow's milk. I'm assuming during this time I should also try to transition him off the bottle as well? Not sure, I'm in uncharted territory, please advise!

I'm stalking this. We're going to be starting to wean her from formula in a couple of weeks. Eek! I think we're going to do formula first and then the bottle, just so it's not too much change all at once.

We went cold turkey from the bottle/formula to sippy/cows milk. LO love love loved her bottle so I was pretty terrified and prepared to go back and do it more slowly if we had to, but honestly I just hated cleaning bottles so I didn't want to do it anymore if I didn't have to. The first day she didn't drink that much, just a few sips each time I offered it. I decided to give it one more day and the next day she gulped the milk down during each meal. No more bottles for us

Happy Birthday little Clementine!
This is just my thought...but if he's used to getting formula/breastmilk in a bottle and takes a sip to find out it's something different, he may be quicker to reject it? Or you could be lucky and he just might love the taste of whole milk! Does your LO drink water from a sippy or straw cup?
Anyway, my LO only gets a bottle of breastmilk before bed but otherwise nurses or drinks from a sippy or straw cup during the day so we introduced whole milk in a sippy. He only takes a little at a time but after a few weeks he has gotten used to the taste to the point where he doesn't spit it out!

We're doing this now. As of her birthday, all milk will go in a soppy cup. We're starting with 3/4 formula, then half then 1/4, then full cow's milk. My baby is such a big girl! Sniff!

@artbee: my LO keeps thinking drinking from a sippy cup is just for fun. He does a big sip then lets it come out of his mouth. Not sure what to do about this. He's making a huge mess for me. I've had to keep changing him.

@Clementine: Oh no! How long have you been trying for?

@artbee: off and on since 6 mos so around 4 mos. he gets how to sip from it and he will swallow sometimes but 8/10 times he slowly lets it out of his mouth. I dunno what to do!

@Clementine: My LO also started at 6 months and didn't really get it until I put milk in it. Then she loved it. But every baby is different and does things at different paces. Your LO might need a longer time to get a hang of it..... or maybe try different sippy cups?

@Clementine: aiieee my LO does this too on occasion. I get so excited that he took a big gulp, and then he smiles and there's a mini waterfall over his chin haha...
maybe try straw cups and regular cups too! I'm thinking it's just a matter of time.

@artbee: @tysonja: we have both a sippy cup and a straw sippy cup and he does the same thing. argh!

@Mrs. Jacks: we haven't been as gradual. just switching a few bottles of milk then formula etc. he seems to be more gassy, is that normal?

So is he taking whole milk in a bottle ok?
What about just a regular cup? He will need your help at first but using a sippy or straw cup isn't essential...just less messy!

@Clementine: Yeah, we thought our daughter could just cold turkey it, but I think her tummy and taste buds need time to adjust so we've been going slower
