It does get better...I promise! I wasn't allowed to have anything other than a liquid diet for the first 36 hours or so. I think my recovery was pretty standard, but I remember thinking that I would never be able to get in and out of bed without pain and would never be steady on my feet. Each day got better and better. Within a week or two I had minimal pain and felt comfortable holding my baby while walking around. Until then let people bring the baby to you and enjoy lots of cuddle time

I had to go that long without eating for my labor/delivery/recovery and it wa so hard. Especially the period after the birth. Food is coming soon. You'll pass gas! I'm so sorry you are sad

My recovery was pretty bad but most of my friends bounced back quickly! They were driving and taking walks within a week.

I wasn't able to sleep in my bed for 3 weeks and I walked at a snail's pace for a couple of weeks. I never got pain relief from my meds so I just stopped taking them because I was sick of going back to my dr to try new drug combos that were doing nothing. Things got better at the one month mark and I felt great 6 weeks pp.

Hang in there! I haven't had a C, but I understand the crazy emotions, overwhelming feelings, and desperation. It will get better - you just have to get through this part - one little moment at a time. You'll start feeling like a million bucks in no time.

@travelingbrit: Prayers that the pain--both physical and emotional--will subside soon! I know that they will.

If there are particular juices you like, get someone to go get them for you. Hospital-issue OJ is not that tasty, you know? Also, the nurses should be able to give you options for pain treatment--I think some of them are designed to help a bit with the mental strain as well.

Finally, if you have an ICAN (Int'l Cesarean Awareness Network) chapter nearby, those women can be a great resource for coping after a traumatic birth. (At risk of sounding totally creepy, I saw on your profile that you're in South Florida. The ICAN South Florida women are AWESOME. So if you're still in Miami/Fort Lauderdale, don't hesitate to contact them! They've got a website and an email listserv.)

@travelingbrit: It will get better though it may take some time. I've had friends who were up and out and about almost as soon as the C-section was done, but I had a really hard recovery and almost 8 months later still have pain.

I didn't sleep in my bed for about a month and a half--I couldn't get in and out of bed. Moving to the living room really helped me feel better because I could roll off the couch easier and get LO when she cried or needed to be fed. I did ask for something stronger than Motrin and that definitely helped.

I remember the passing gas thing! And it hurt so much to walk--I had to walk around the hospital floor bent over like a little old lady while all the women with vaginal births were galloping (that's what it seemed like to me). Ugh. It hurt so much but lots of water and juice helped me. My husband had to help a lot--he helped me get up to go to the bathroom and would bring the baby to me so that I could feed her. Once you get home don't push anything and it's okay if you stay in your pajamas all day! What helped me feel better was being able to shower every day (the little things) and having someone else worry about the cleaning.
