this is so so sad

Our daughter Ava Quinn was born on Thursday, November 13th at 8:24 a.m. At 37 weeks, she weighed 7lbs 5oz. and was perfect and beautiful. It really was love at first sight. As we had known for the past two months, she was born with polycystic kidney disease. She cried twice on her own and took a few breaths before she was intubated and taken to the NICU. Unfortunately the lack of amniotic fluid from her kidney disease did not allow her lungs to properly develop and they were very tiny. Her heart was also not functioning well. They were able to initially stabilize her after several hours, but then she coded 3 times. There was just no way that her lungs and heart could sustain her.

The doctors and nurses were amazing and worked relentlessly to do everything possible for Ava. Our little girl fought so incredibly hard and hung in there long enough so I could be wheeled up to spend some time with her. Ava lived 13 hours and was able to meet both sets of grandparents, her only aunt, her only uncle, and her big sister Clara. Ultimately it was too much for her little body to overcome and we decided it was time to let her go peacefully and say goodbye to our perfect little girl.

As you can imagine, we are heartbroken that Ava was not able to make it. We miss her so much, but we are so thankful for the precious time we had with our sweet baby girl. She was more beautiful than we could have ever imagined. She was a fighter and so incredibly tough. We will never forget her and she will live in our hearts forever.

What a beautiful baby - and how lucky she is that she was born to such caring parents and surrounded by love for her entire, albeit way too short, life.
