We're at 2 years of nursing. (Not by design, just mutual agreement/evolution of our nursing patterns!) Around 15 mos. I was ready to throw in the towel--LO asked for it all the time and I was frustrated. That stopped after a few weeks.

I couldn't find much online or in any of my books about nursing a toddler, but I did see something on kellymom.com (I think) about how very young toddlers often go through a "newborn-like" nursing phase for a bit. Kind of cold comfort if you're in the thick of it!

In our case, since LO didn't want to stop and I was okay continuing (after a few deep breaths), we just powered through. We slowly got down to just a few comfort nursings a day, which is where we're still at, although occasionally LO just forgets about it. So, I guess my thought is, if you want to, you can drop down to just a few times a day rather than weaning. It just takes a little time and, you know, maybe a glass of wine for mama once and a while!

if that were me, i'd definitely wean!

@Thehistoryofus: right now i'm the only one who can put olive down at night because she won't take a bottle. i'd rather she take a bottle! but since she's a year, i guess the ideal situation would be no bottle at all. they're old enough not to need one.

We didn't wean until 2, but we did make a strict rule that it was only going to be for nighttime. I feel like one 5 minute night session is fully sustainable, but any more and I would have been to frustrated!

@Thehistoryofus: I think there was a lot of comfort nursing going on during that time when we went through it. The best solution for us was time and patience (the latter of which I certainly don't have in abundance, but am learning!).

It sounds like you're doing a fantastic job, and what you said in your original post is spot-on--you've put in a lot of hard work! You can make it to your goal!
