I work full time and pump for DS who is almost 10 months old. He nurses when we are together. He has been EBF and is now eating solids. I would really love to stop pumping around a year, but continue to nurse when we are together. Is that reasonable and doable? Also, were your LOs able to transition from cows milk and breastmilk easily throughout the day?

I was able to do that the first time around, stopped pumping at 12 months and nursed my daughter until 26! My youngest is 9 months now and I just can't pump anymore when she turns 1. I'm over it. I am really hoping she will continue to nurse.

Totally! It took me about a month to fully pump wean when DD was 1, and I occasionally had some engorgement during the day on Monday if she nursed more on the weekend but was able to continue our nursing relationship long after I retired the pump.

Of course! I was able to do this with both girls. With DD1, I pump weaned around 11.5 months and she continued to nurse until 21 months. Currently with DD2, I pump weaned at 12.5 months, and she is still nursing and going strong at 22 months.

Yes, although I dropped most of our daytime sessions at around the same time as I pump weaned. I pump weaned starting around 11.5 months and was completely done by 12.5 months. We still nursed morning and evening every day at that point and sometimes during the day on weekends. By maybe 14 months though, we were completely down to only morning and night (except on a few occasions when she was sick).
We kept two sessions until around 18 months and actually didn't fully wean from the evening session until she was 27 months.

When I weaned from the pump, I also weaned during the weekend for those pump times, so that I was consistently emptying my breasts at the same time every day (morning and night). I was able to continue nursing at those times for a couple more months before my LO self-weaned.

I stopped pumping at 1 and we nursed for another 8 months when together without issue.

Oh yeah. I pump weaned around 11 months and kept BF until 17 months. I work full time, as well (and had pumped at work since 3 months PP).

@peaches1038: i stopped pumping when LO was a year old. but I continued to nurse for 2 more months. I could have continued for longer because I had a good supply but I wanted to wean her at 14 months

Yes, I pump weaned in March after LO was a year old and then continued to nurse at night time and bed time for another two months.

I just wanted to give the opposite point of view. After I pump weaned just after a year, I tried to nurse morning and night. But because my supply was less, my son would get frustrated and started biting while nursing (this was not a problem when I was nursing full time). So I ended up completely weaning him about a month after I pump weaned. It wasn't my ideal, but it was nice to have my body back. Hope it works out better for you

Yep, no problem! Not sure how much milk my LO was actually getting but she didn't seem to mind.

I stopped pumping around a year, and we're still nursing mornings, nights, and weekends.
She doesn't drink much cow's milk though, so mostly gets food and water at daycare. Our doctor's not concerned, as long as she's eating cheese and yogurt.

Yes! I stopped pumping about two months ago, but I still nurse when I'm with him. He's 11 months old, and nurses two or three times daily. We supplement with a bottle of formula at lunch right now, but after he's a year old, we'll stop that.

That is what we did. I stopped pumping around 13.5 months I think. We have continued to nurse morning and night. DD is 17 months now. I had hoped to continue nursing during the day on weekends as well, but she lost interest pretty quickly after she had gotten used to having just solids and WCM at daycare.

I did! I stopped pumping around 16 months and nursed until 22 months

@peaches1038: I had no issues quitting pumping but still nursing on demand even during work times on my days off. I think our bodies are pretty amazing! I do notice after my days off the first day back at work I have more let down and tingling feelings than the last day of my work week, but my son seems fine in terms of happiness with how much he's getting. I figured after one it would only help in natural slow weaning if it lowered my supply a bit.

Yes, very doable. I quit pumping at work at 1 year. We offered cow's milk at meals. She did go through a period she refused it but it was more to do with refusing all liquids (she just didn't want to be told what to do). But it was only about ~3mo or so and I'd try and trick her into drinking low-sugar juice pouches just to get some liquid in her during that time. Our ped wasn't concerned as far as lower cows milk intake since I still BF her 2-3x a day. Eventually she drank cows milk just fine. I just nursed her at home until I weaned her at 25mo.

From what I'm reading, you can go all day without pumping and will not dry up?

@pachamama: Yeah, I don't think you really start to dry up until you start missing an entire day's nursing. At least that's how it worked for me. I nursed once a day for like a month and it was fine.

I did! I stopped pumping at a year and nursed until 20 months. We had been supplementing formula in her bottles because I am a sucky pumper, so I just swapped the mix of formula/ BM for BM and cow's milk and transitioned into just cow's milk.

I plan to stop pumping at 10 months but still nurse 1-2 years. I'm planning on talking to my local la leche league when the time comes nearer.
@junebugsmama: My mom told me something similar. I think she nursed me 15 months but pumped for 5 months at work, and she said she never had a problem on weekends either.
