Haha. Good question. We took M to see Santa Sunday and they had hot cocoa but I am not ready for her to drink it yet at 18 months...

haah I've been wondering this too. We were playing outside in the snow over the weekend. And I thought how perfect would hot chocolate be when we go in? Instead I heated up some French onion soup. LOL

My LO is just a baby but I think as an occasional treat, whenever they are interested in it. 3-5? No clue. =)

My Dd had her first hot chocolate two days ago, age 5. There was no particular age in my mind, we just don't have much hot chocolate down here. I would have maybe offered some to my 2 yr old, but he wasn't around.

2 or 3. if you make it with warm milk & ovaltine (my spellcheck wants to change that to 'ovulating', hahahaha), it's really not that bad for them. bonus points if you use the tiny tea cups & put nickel sized dollop of whipped cream on it

@mrs. bird: I love ovaltine! Grew up on that.
I'm thinking next winter for hot chocolate. Provided it's earlier in the day.

My friend (who is pregnant with #1) came over with lattes and brought J (almost 19 months) a hot chocolate. I was stunned! I dumped it into a mug, rinsed the syrup out of the bottom, added a 1/2 inch of cocoa and about the same amount of milk. DS looooved it...and didnt nap...
Ps - I don't give DS juice or anything - this was a one time thing!

DS probably had his first at 2 years old. It was more like warm chocolate though.

@Mrsjets: ha! i was bringing breakfast over to my friend who is pregnant with #2. Her DD is 26 months and she LOVED the hot chocolate. she texted me that it was gone less than 5 minutes after i left their house!
thanks for all the replies! even though i have an 11 m.o., i had no idea when i would think it was appropriate! my friend's daughter loved the hot chocolate though!
