Cobi will be 11 months in a few days and still doesn't get the whole sippy cup thing. He can suck on it, but he doesn't tip it back, and he won't even try. I've laid him on the boppy to see if that helps, but he doesn't want to lay down and drink. So during our meals we always have to hold the sippy ourselves... is he late on developing this skill? How old was your LO?

Have you tried a straw yet? My little guy never held his own bottle or anything so I was worried that he wouldn't get the concept of tipping back a sippy cup. We started with a cheapie Playtex straw cup that you can give a light squeeze and the liquid goes up through the straw while they are learning. We just splurged on the Zoli and IT. IS. AMAZING. I love this cup.

Maybe you can try a straw cup instead. Both my kids took to the straw cup before the sippy.

@Mrs. Pen: DS was the same! I still can't get him to tip back (13 months). He rocks the straw cup though! Love the Tommee Tippee ones especially.

DD got the sippy ok pretty early but was much more successful with straw cup like PP suggested. Also, we had a lot of success with the Tilty cup (learned about from @Mrs. Bee).

We've tried traditional straws, but he just gnaws on them... haven't taken the plunge on a zoli or lolla cup yet!

I feel like this is the case for babies who don't get bottle fed as much....like my own. At 11 months he still doesn't get it. I'm hesitant to spend on another cup too because what if he doesn't like it or get it?

DS was the same (and I remember wondering if he was behind haha). He didn't really get the hang of it until 15 months. Some babies understand right away and others, it takes longer but it doesn't mean they are behind!

LO is 9 months and she tilts the sippy cup back a little, but most times we have to do it so we switched to a straw cup. Got a cheapie Nuby Straw Cup ($5 for 2) to see if she would go for it and it took her a day to learn how to use it. She gnawed on it a bunch and still does, but also drinks, too.

I would say around 10 months she got the straw cup and would drink a lot of water from it

He's 9 months and doesn't get the regular sippy, but had the straw sippy down by 6 months. He figured it out immediately and can drink from a regular straw now.

@BabyBruins: We have the Zoli, but LO still doesn't seem to get it (she's nearly 8 months old). I'm hoping she will catch on soon.

My LO is 20 months old and still doesn't understand how to use a sippy cup. He prefers straws.
