Oh my goodness, they're expensive! I knew they would be but I guess that was one thing I didn't really anticipate being as pricey as it is.
I'll be at home for about five or six months, probably, but I want to pump. I just feel more comfortable with that. And anyway there will be times where I'll probably HAVE to pump anyway.
Are the manual ones terrible? What's the difference in experience between the single and the double? There's a pretty big price difference.

I have a Medela Pump in Style. It's been great but I kind of wish I had a Hygeia.
I started out with a manual pump and it was OK for the occasional pumping, but when I got my PIS it blew ol' squeezy out of the water!
I consider a double electric an absolute must for anyone who will be away from their baby for any significant amount of time (working part time, full time, travel, etc.)
See if your insurance will pay for it. if not, you can deduct it.

I have a Medela freestyle, it's a double electric that can function as a single as well. It's amazing and I couldn't live without it. LO is breasted primarily but I pump at least twice a day with it, and DH bottle feeds her at least once every day.
I would say that if your planning on pumping a lot, invest in a good double electric.

I have the Lansinoh Affinity Double Electric, I've only been using it about 2 weeks but I have no complaints. It works great and its less than half the price of Ameda or Medela

I have a hygeia. I got the Enjoye LBI model, which had an internal rechargeable battery. It was really helpful because I travel for work and needed to pump while on the road without an outlet. I haven't used any other electric pumps so I can't compare, but I think the Medela Freestyle would be my second choice.

Hygeia Enjoye. I think a double electric pump is a must if you're going to be using it with any regularity.

Hygeia Enjoye also- love it! It ran me $319, but it is worth every penny. I can take it to work and pump and not have to worry about finding a plug.
Definitely get one where you can pump both sides at once and get a pumping bra. I have a cheapie manual, but I can't imagine using that all the time or only pumping one side at a time, it takes long enough to do both at once.

I bought a Medela Pump In Style off Craigslist for $75. And was gifted a new accessory pack (which runs around $40). That really helped save a lot of money off the price of a new pump.
Haven't used it yet, so I can't comment on if I like it or not (I'm not super committed to pumping/BFing, so I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a pump I might only use a few times).

Look into Hygeia, because like a hospital grade pump (and unlike Medela PIS or Freestyle), it stays "clean" inside, so you can buy it used and get new accessories, or you can sell it when you're done.

Hygeia Enjoye! It works just as efficiently, if not better, than the Ameda pump I rented from the hospital. I am an exclusive pumper, and my Hygeia has been through a lot. It's still going strong as I start to wean a whole year later. It was definitely worth the investment for me.

I have the Lansinoh Double Electric (not the current Lansinoh model but the older model that is almost identical to the Ameda Purely Yours); it is a double but can function as a single too.
If you are planning to pump after you are no longer staying at home, definitely recommend a double-electric.

MEdela Pump In Stylae Advanced. To me, a double electric is a necessity. I have a medela manual pump that I keep in my purse for emergencies, but the PISA blows (sucks) it out of the water lol

Medela PISA is the one we bought. I agree, if you are pumping with any regularity, a double electric and a hands-free pumping bra are worth it.

I@enjollah: I'm at home, so I used it a lot when my milk first came in and I had such crazy oversupply that she couldn't eat, and now whenever I need to miss a feeding. I like it, but it's the only one I've tried.

@enjollah: I bought it after I rented one from the hospital - it worked well. I only used it for about 4 months because LO stopped taking a bottle but I had no problems with it. Very easy to use.
