@MediaNaranja: OMG--cataloging is the PITS. Do you do mostly copy-cataloging or are you creating actual MARC records from scratch?
The one task that I procrastinate and procrastinate on is cataloging new books. It is so, so tedious--easy, just boring. Kudos to you for doing it! My old school district hired some aides that did all the copy cataloging for the librarians and I really miss that.
If I order books with our budget money, I pay to have them cataloged and processed before they ship, but I'm also on a book commiteee and I get thousands of free books from publishers, so all of those I have to do myself. And most of them are so new, they don't even have MARC records out yet, and I have to create my own (I get quite a bit before they are available for purchase, because the publishers are pushing them out to the committees early so the authors can be considered for the award).
Anyway, good for you! Wish I could hire you to come work for me!

@jhd: I'd love to hear about how you balance that with SAH. Do you have a nanny? Or just work part-time? I've been considering teaching online school but I hear a lot of downside to it (I guess that depends on the state though).

@Anagram: I just do copy cataloging, thank god! I'm not a librarian nor am I trained in library science. I worked p/t at the library doing a bit of everything while looking for a f/t job. They put me to work cataloging once I started working Sundays. All the stuff I can't find a record for I leave for the actual librarian to do, ha! It can definitely get boring some days, but I just crank up music or a podcast and get in the zone. My boss loves me because I'm so fast
But seriously, they had a TON of grant money last year that they had to use or lose, and I'm still working through piles of books that were ordered more than a year ago (omg...). I know that the children and adult service librarians tried to convince the library director to order them cataloged & processed, but she didn't go for it Good that she didn't, I guess, since otherwise I'd be out of a job!

@MediaNaranja: in all seriousness, if you lived near me, I would pay you out of my own pocket to come up for a couple of days and finish the 7 boxes of books I have sitting here.
What's crazy is that I don't mind that cataloging part too, too much--but I hate...HATE...printing the labels and sticking them on the books and covering them with label protectors and putting book jackets on the books. TEDIOUS.

@Mrs. Taco: I only had one class in the fall and two in spring and they are pretty small. The course materials were already made so I'm more of a facilitator than anything. I have been able to do everything during nap times or after DH gets home or at the weekend. So it's very part-time, but keeps me connected to teaching. My mom will watch LO two mornings a week in fall when I teach the college classes. So far the online work has been perfect for our family at this stage and I think I will be ready for those few hours outside the home by fall. LO is almost 1 so he'll be 16 months when school starts in the fall.

@Anagram: If I ever find myself in your area, I'll hit you up for some cataloging
And hey, if nothing else ever comes of it, at least putting on book jackets has made me really awesome at wrapping presents Are "expert-level contact paper skills" something I can add to my resume?!
