I used to make pancake/waffle fingers with sweet potato/apple puree for dipping. My son loved it.
I had also thought about doing a savory waffle and then having hummus as a dipper.

At home he eats them dry but we make the 3-ingredient pancakes and use lots of butter in the pan so they're plenty sweet and yummy!
If we are out and we order pancakes or French toast for him we slather on lots of butter. You can never have too much butter!

Dry with a teeny sprinkle of confectioners sugar. We almost always eat waffles/pancakes with fruit on the side so that sweetens them up. He's never cared that DH and I use syrup.

I usually make him these carrot pancakes from weelicious and think they're sweet enough as is. But sometimes will add butter. If we're at a restaurant, just some butter or plain.

Maple syrup, just like the adults. I don't remember when we started that though...sometime after one year and before two.

Maple syrup! We make our own so we eat a lot of it around here. He got his first taste around a year old.

@Smurfette: I let him have a little syrup sometimes too. I usually just dip a piece or two in a little bit of maple syrup. Either that or cut up bananas with it and/or peanut butter. He eats them plain as well - but I would do that too they're delish!

Just butter. Right now waffles is the only thing he'll eat for breakfast. I should try peanut butter on them. That's a good idea. We have done maple syrup in the past.

@bushelandapeck: One of the kids I nannied for got mad at me when I was first starting because I thawed her frozen waffle. Kids are nuts.

Almond butter with a bit of honey on top is her favorite. But we also do butter, and she has had syrup a few times too.

I usually warm up some frozen blueberries and spread some of the juice on them. Or marinara sauce. Weird, but she ate regular toast one night dipped in marinara, and now likes any bread like product dipped in spaghetti sauce.
But she's a weirdo that doesn't really like anything sweet so far, it seems.

My almost 3 year old gets syrup ( or rather demands it ever since a weekend with cousins at 2). 11 month old eats them dry!

For most of his "real food" eating life, he's had them plain. However, we just recently started putting a little butter and syrup on them. Needless to say, he LOVES that.
