I had a c-sec at Lenox Hill in NYC and they told me theirs was about 40%, and some high percentage of those were elective...I added to that

ETA - there are a few different lists on there. I know Lenox Hills percentages are high regardless, but I didnt care. I wanted a csec so that was a nonissue. I can tell you that the hospital with the lowest rate almost killed me lol. Not for childbirth though =o)

The hospital I delivered at is actually on the low end at about 19% (which I was part of making)

Where I live now, both hospitals are right about 25%.... 1 in 4 is still to high in my book!

note: both these rates are considered "risk adjusted" so it doesn't include high risk.... just the normal low risk momma going in for delivery.

I actually don't know, but now I want to find out. I can't say I beat the odds since I did have a c-section.

My hospital has rate of somewhere between 36-40. Cant remember the exact number. But they labor ward at my hospital is called the birthing center and they claim to be very open to vaginal births and moms in labor are allowed to walk around, shower.. etc and arent restricted to lay on their backs on the bed

This is interesting. But I have no clue what the rate is at the hospital I gave birth at. I had a vaginal birth, my sister a C-section (because the baby wasn't placed properly)

Both me and my younger sister were both there, Hubs too and all vaginally.... so the C-section rate in our family is REALLY LOW

I found out that in 2009, the c section rates at my hospiral was 39.2

Side note: What is a "good" C-section rate? I've heard it depends on what type of hospital it is. If they handle lots of high risk patients, obviously it is going to be higher.

My hospital is on the higher end probably but that's because our area's high risk doctors deliver there. I knew starting at week 16 that I'd never be able to have anything but a c-section.

Just out of curiosity, I looked up the C section rate for Vanderbilt Hospital, which is where I'd likely have our first child if everything lines up how I'd like. In 2008 (a while ago I know) it was 31%! Not sure if that's adjusted or not. But then I found something on a Babycenter thread saying the rate for the midwife practice was 16% in 2010... interesting!

The hospital that I work at and will deliver at has a 19% c-section rate. That is not a risk-adjusted rate, just the straight stats (number of c-sections divided by number of births).

The CS rate where I went was 26.5% and I didnt have a CS. The hospital is trying to become like a birthing center and its made great strides from what I hear it used to be but it still has a bit more to go.

there's a childbirth guide that has useful birth information and C/S rates for NY hospitals (page 15), but the data is from 2000 & 2008... still a good guide to read though. There's also a national guide & Philly guide. All the guides are on the right-hand column of the homepage.

According to this source, my hospitals' 2008 C/S rates were 31.7% (DD#1, 2008 baby) and 40.7% (!!!) (DD#2, 2011 baby). So yes, we beat the odds both times and are very grateful for our experiences.
