I think for my LO it is jellyfish and korean blood sausage soup (both eaten while traveling overseas). And she gobbled them up!

Erm sriacha? She is only 11 months old so it has been pretty tame so far.

Oh man, even i won't eat soondae!
I think the most exciting thing was a curried coconut soup with noodles that i made. She had that at around 11 months (it wasn't hot-spicy) and loved it!

@Freckles: I think the key with soondae is getting them to eat it before they realize what it really is lol I ate it throughout my childhood, blissfully ignorant, and by the time I discovered what it really was, it was too late, I already loved it!
@plantains: Wow, was she okay with the spice? I've been wanting to give LO spicy foods but I've been too scared!

Charlie and olive have had blood sausage. Other than that sushi? Cooked cod roe? Nothing too crazy!

I was going to say soondae too! She loved it. The 2nd next exotic thing I guess would be sushi... I don't think that's too exotic, but pretty good for a 2 year old!

We just spent almost a month in Asia and my son was actually really brave and sampled a lot of things that I wouldn't touch (but I was battling morning sickness during the trip, so I wasn't eating much). He ate ants in an ant patty, some strange an interesting sea creatures and lots of tropical fruit...lychees, rambutan, dragon fruit, passion fruit and mangosteen.

Calamari. I reserved a portion I didn't season and she gobbled it up!

J is crazy about Indian food. He loves spicy dishes, like his mama.

Sashimi. He loves fish in all forms. He has also had a lot of spicy foods. Well on his way to killing all his taste buds just like dad.

@betsyboop: yup, she was fine with it! I eat a ton of spicy food so I'm sure she is used to getting it through my BM, but I really wanted to be sure she was eating spicy food as soon as possible so she doesn't refuse it down the line.

@plantains: Good plan! We also eat a lot of spicy foods and making separate food for her on those days feels like a lot of work. I think I'm going to start introducing some spice!

Well, she's had Thai, Vietnamese, Indian and Lebanese food and loved it all. Not super exotic, but for a bunch of WASPs it's right out there! lol!

@plantains: what age did you start spicy food?
grapefruit / 4671 posts
@regberadaisy: I started it at 10 months. I also started slow by giving her bits from my plate as opposed to a full fledged meal to let her get used to the flavour.

@betsyboop: Yup, I just couldn't imagine always having to cook something different for her.

Mussels at 17 months. Prior to that it was Brussel sprouts. Neither are necessarily exotic, but I wouldnt eat Brussel sprouts until I was 30 and I still won't eat mussels.

He's only 8 months, so I think like, a mango? Hahaha, pretty tame compared to all this!
