I know things change but right now we plan on public elementary, public junior high and private high school.

Right now, I am undecided for kindergarten, but I feel like we have three options: public, private where he will go to preK or charter in another town.
I feel like once we decide that, the rest will become clear.

All Public Education - its one of the reasons we picked this area - amazing public schools!
But like you said - we will reevaluate if needed

As of now, we are planning on all public school, but if we somehow got a bunch of extra money down the line, we would consider private school.

@Mamaof2: ya, the high school has gone downhill according to some parents in the area but maybe it will be different when my LOs are old enough!

I've only thought as far as preschool/nursery school! That will be private. Anything after that depends on finances at the time!

we're probably going to enroll DS in montessori preschool this fall and he will probably go for two years since he's a late Nov baby.
otherwise, all public until college! we have great schools rated nationally in the area that surpass the private schools, IMO.

So far, probably private preschool and maybe kindergarten, and then public elementary. Who knows on middle & high school. I plan on moving before she hits elementary, so it depends on the options in the new area.

I am hoping to move again (ahhh!) (we kind of have to because we are below a community room we are having issues with) and I hope to get this place where I can walk her to the best public elementary. I am hoping to keep her in the best public schools in the area. Not 100% sure!

Montessori preschool, public elementary, and then private.

Public school. Hoping he will get into the local charter school which goes from k-8. Getting into the charter high school is very competitive, and I would rather stick with public high school.

We've been reconsidering things recently. We have an amazing public elementary near us that all of my mom friends have been gushing over. Our original plan was private all the way. Right now we're looking at charter or public (especially if they get rid of Common Core) for elem and then readdress it halfway through elem.

The plan is private K-8 in Cali... Maybe public high... Maybe moving out of state by then.
We live in CA, where boys and girls are allowed in whatever bathroom they want to go in at public schools. This just started and I am not sure how it will affect kids yet... How awkward for LO to be 12, having her period, and have a boy in her bathroom. What about high schoolers getting it on in the bathroom... No privacy and no supervision:(

Most likely all public with a small chance of home schooling for part of elementary school. If we move though and have a Montessori option for preschool and elementary we would likely do that.

Public primary school (K-6) and either private high school (7-12) or a selective/magnet public high schools if she gets in.
I wanted to do public all the way, but DH is pretty fixed on private high school as we both attended one. Its important to him so we're put her down for my high school.

Just moved to a town where the public schools are amazing, so all public unless our kids' needs require something else.

Unless our district drastically changes; public all the way.

Private catholic school hopefully. We will see if they let the lesbians kids in. Possibly public for hs if we still live in New Orleans (gentilly.)

We picked our house based on the school system, so the plan is public all the way.
pomelo / 5298 posts
All public, but that might include a move to a better high school. Our high school is okay, but there are great high schools in neighboring 'burbs.

Public for elementary. We'll have to figure out middle and high school when we get there. If we move then it will be public all the way. And we'll adjust if the need arises.

All public! We will have to move before LO gets to middle school but we would rather go through a move to another county than send our son to any of the private schools around us.

She's going to the same school she's going to now. Her daycare is attached to an elementary school. It's near a lake with a forest right next to it (it's even called The School's forest). So far, I love it and feel grateful each day for finding a house that's nearby.
As for middle school, she's likely going to one of the ones in town (15 minute walk away). There isn't a high school in town, but we'll figure that out when the time comes. There's a few high schools in the next town over (15 minutes drive) but I'm not so enthusiastic about any of them!
They're all public, but in Sweden, the cost is the same for private and public (except for boarding schools).

@Fronkinzankinsbride: For what it's worth, I know a few lesbian couples who send their kids to Catholic school. I hope it works out for you!
Our LO (and future LO's) will likely go to private Catholic school.

All public, really the only option in our small town. It's in the 10 ten high school in the state though (released last week.)

We're planning for Catholic high school and preschool. Elementary and junior high will depend where we live. If we stay in our current city/location, I wouldn't feel comfortable sending DD to our local schools. We're planning to relocate between now and then though, and we're planning to prioritize good public schools so that the "choice" between public and private remains a real choice.
blogger / grapefruit / 4836 posts
I am incredibly passionate about public, so none of the other options are a consideration for us. I have learned to never say never... But It would take some really extreme circumstances for me to change my mind.

Man, this is a major topic we are considering.
We love our neighborhood. I don't think we could ever move somewhere and feel "at home" the way we do here. But the taxes are higher & the school district sucks. Taxes are so high that sending our kids to private school isn't affordable.
So we'd like to move to a neighboring town, where two schools are both in the top 10 in our state.. But houses there are so far out of our reach. Hopefully more real estate opens but right now... Yeesh!
I don't know where we will end up. We've even talked about moving to the south. Who knows.
