We used a Zoli straw cup from the get-go. I had been doing the suck water into a straw, hold it in by putting my finger on the end and then letting it out in his mouth and he seemed to understand that so we decided just to start with a straw cup. He had issues with it, although it's a pain to clean without getting the separate straw cleaner and I've found it leaks a lot. But I like the handles and weighted end.

We use a Zoli too. I like the weighted straw and the handles. Like @FutureMrsMcK said, it does leak some. DS bit off part of the straw once and the hole was causing the leak. I love that DS can't pour anything out of it. We used to use munchkin soft spout cups but he would bang them on everything and milk was EVERYWHERE!!
I never thought I would spend $10+ on a sippy cup but the Zoli has been worth it for us.

Zoli! It does leak but a lot less the the other cups we tried!

I've tried a number of sippies. The Tommee Tippee with the silicone top helped. Only this week after months of struggle, I finally looked into sippy cup lids for Avent bottles. It took a little convincing but he took his bottle with it tonight.

@cascademom: interesting! Never heard of that! What didn't work with the others?

@travellingbee: LO was just weird with other sippies. Zoli was and is a total fail for him. At daycare, he does well with sippies for water, but not milk. By Friday, I'll see how the experiment is going and get more.

@cascademom: We also use the TTs with the silicone top. Works great . . . except when LO opens the top with her finger and lets the water dribble out. Lil stinker!

Playtex little grippers straw up because you can Squeeze the sides and water is pushed up. We later got a munchkin cup after she could suck. The munchkin cup you have to bite and suck so it took a little more effort but it made the water come up slower so she didn't take in too much water or choke on the water

@MsLipGloss: Yeah, LO loves to tip over his water. So far, two feedings, he's taking to the silicone sippy cup attachment for the Avent bottles. It's a start. I think tomorrow, I'll order more.

I was thinking about ordering one of these to try out! I might be crazy but it has good reviews!

My twins are 6.5 months old and we just introduced a straw cup two weeks ago. We use the Playtex Little Gripper. They love it.

We started off with Nuby straw cups, they were like $2 at Wal-Mart. We liked them so much, we bought more. She now uses the ones that flip close. They're both no spill. I wanted to try these before buying a Zoli, but they worked so well, we ended sticking to them.
We're also using (trying to use) an Avent Natural Drinking cup, recommended by @Looch. They're great, but my DD just likes to play with the water by either spitting it out or pouring it out. I'll reintroduce it to her when she's a little older.
As for sippy or straw, straws definitely work much, much better with my LO, but it's just preference. I'm transitioning her into normal straws now and so far, it works if I'm careful.

I'm just curious, which is better for baby: straw or spout? LO didn't take to Zoli, but has done better with spout. Silicone spout seems to be the better transition for him since Avent bottles have silicone nipples.

We started with a sippy. I'm not brave enough for an open cup, and she didn't quite understand the straw cup until she got a little older.

We have been the Zoli from the get go and it's been great. We JUST got an oxo tot training cup and tried it last night at dinner. There was water everywhere but she LOVED drinking like a big girl.
In the beginning she didn't get spout cups because she really hadn't had bottles and we couldn't get her to tip her head back to drink at all. She just kept chewing on the spouts.
