Ran out of ideas during an especially long bedtime routine today...started singing "Soft kitty, warm kitty" from Big Bang Theory!

I don't really do lullabies. I just sing slower, softer songs I like. Recently I've done Disney, Garth Brooks, Celine Dion, etc. DD doesn't know the difference!

I just sing anything that's not like rock and roll haha, in a soft voice.

Twinkle twinkle, you are my sunshine, goodnight sweetheart and rockabye baby are our dailies. I usually just make other ones up.

D's nightly songs are "Lullaby," by Dixie Chicks and "Stay Awake," from Mary Poppins. Trying to come up with what I'm going to sing for Babygirl. My mom sang "Stay Awake" to both of us, but we also each had our own "special" song (mine was "Desperado," ha ha), so I'd like to do the same for my kids.

@littlebug: Stay Awake is one of ours too! My mom used to sing it to me.
We also sing You are My Sunshine. Lately though, my daughter only wants to hear Mary Had a Little Lamb. Toddlers are strange little creatures.

I've made up my own to some random lullaby tune. And now DS1 will sing it to DS2 at bedtime. Melts my heart!

I sing the first verse of Ben Folds' Lullabye, All the Pretty Little Horses, and Lulu Lula Bye Bye.

@littlebug: oh, we used to sing Stay Awake too, but I had forgotten about it! Love that you remember what your mom sang to you!
@sera_87: that's exactly what was going through my head last night.
Our usual ones are Twinkle Twinkle in Chinese and English, Lullabye and Goodnight in Chinese and English, and Hush Little Baby.

I sing old camp songs that I learned when I was a kid - Tell Me Why, the Riddle Song (by Carly Simon) and Cowboy Lullabye. I'm trying to decide if the new LO should have different songs or to use the same since they will share rooms eventually.

@Mrs Panda: I'm guilty of singing soft kitty when we e run out of songs and LO requests that I keep singing.
Usually we do Hushabye mountain from Chitty chitty bang bang, twinkle twinkle, hush little baby, etc...

Baby beluga, moon river, somewhere over the rainbow, and my Favorite things. Also you are my sunshine.
pear / 1586 posts
Our standby/nightly bedtime song is Sweet Baby James. If I need more than one song I'll do Moon River and/or You are my Sunshine.

DS is only 1 month old. Mostly I sing slower hymns to him - usually out of whatever is in the church bulletin. The ones I mostly sing are "Just as I Am" and "Be Thou My Vision." (hymn people will probably know them).

For a long time when he was little my son would only fall asleep to either Twinkle Twinkle Little Star or the theme song from The Monkees.
I also used to sing Devil Knows You're Dead (any FNL fans out there? The song from the last montage in the last episode) to him, because I used to play it a lot when I was pregnant and it was "our" song.

Edelweiss, which my mom used to sing to me and was my daddy daughter song at my wedding. Hey Jude, Swing Low Sweet Chariot, Stay Awake, You Are My Sunshine, Moonshadow by Cat Stevens...there's more but I can't think of it.
honeydew / 7504 posts
@Mrs. J: Ahh, yes, I've broken out "Moonshadow" on occasion when D asked for me to keep singing. Love Cat Stevens.

I've been singing "In My Life" to my son since he was in utero. When I first saw him in the NICU 2 hours after he was born he was crying, and I started singing it, and he immediately stopped crying and looked at me. Ever since then it's been the only thing that really calms him down when he's upset (he's 10 months now), and I sing it every night before bed. We play it in the car to get him to sleep on the go, too! No, not a lullaby, but it's "our" song and it works .

@Mrs. J: Hey Jude-YES! I was lucky enough to see Sir Paul in concert a year ago, and I was very, very pregnant. My son was more active that night than he was the whole pregnancy! The "na, na, na" part at the end is an almost surefire way to get him to sleep on long car trips. LOVE THAT SONG!

I sing "I've Been Waiting" by the Brilliance. It's a beautiful lullaby that also works as a round! I really wanted to take a song that wasn't so common and make it our own. Also, when I was testing different songs on DS when he was super little, he always smiled when I sang this one! So of course it had to be our lullaby!
"I've been waiting all the day long
To see the stars in your eyes
Love, come dance with me now
And see how the evening flies
As you sleep, my dear
Know that I'll be near
To hold you when you arise."

I mix it up a little but most frequently I sing her The Way I Am, Sweet Baby James, and How Sweet It Is. Husband sings her anything and everything

Usually "Feed the Birds" from Mary Poppins or Edelweiss from the Sound of Music. I liked Julie Andrews movies as a kid

I usually sing Landslide, Somewhere over the Rainbow, and Lullaby by Billy Joel.

I have 3 songs I almost always sing when she's nursing before sleep-- "Sing to me" by Walter Martin (from a really adorable indie rock children's cd!), "La vie en rose" (in english, sort of the Louis Armstrong version), and "Hesitating Beauty" by Wilco/Billy Bragg (I change the lyrics a bit so it's lo's name in the song, ie Rosalie rather than Norah-Lee)
so, not usually typical lullabies, though I do sing "you are my sunshine" and "twinkle twinkle" sometimes too (though I change the "you are my sunshine" lyrics too to make them less sad, lol. so, at the end I sing "you'll always know dear/how much I love you/'cause I'll tell you every day" instead of "you'll never know dear/how much i love you/please don't take my sunshine away")
pomegranate / 3045 posts
I always like seeing what other people sing!
I generally hum or sing these. Only a few are lullabies.
Edelweiss
Juanita
All Through the Night
oh Danny Boy/Would God I Were a Tender Apple Blossom
The Servant Song
Tender Shepherd (nursery song from Peter Pan)
nectarine / 2028 posts
@theotherstark: ALL the hand claps for the Broadway version/soundtrack of Peter Pan! I also sing "Never Never Land" to N:-D. Did you watch the Mary Martin version on TV when we were little?!

We sing Jesus Loves Me pretty exclusively. LO asks for it when she is sad or tired.
At naptime we sometimes since the naptime song from Doc McStuffins.

My toddler only wants to hear Twinkle twinkle Little Star and Mr. Sun. Sometimes we throw in Baby Beluga.
persimmon / 1135 posts
No one like you (John Denver), I will (Beatles), Jesus Loves me, Twinkle Twinkle and In my room (Beach Boys)
dh sings Frank Sinatra.. sigh..

Lately we start with the baseball song (Take Me Out to the Ballgame) and the do the ABC's and 123's (which is counting to 26 like the ABC song). Those can change at any time. Wheels on the Bus was a big one for awhile. But we always end it with We Love You, Conrad (from Bye Bye Birdie and DS's name instead of Conrad) and then You are my Sunshine. I'm pretty sure DS thinks those last two are just one song.
GOLD / papaya / 10166 posts
The favorites in our house are "You are my sunshine", "Baby Mine" and "Three Little Birds"
