My parents were pretty involved with my education until I got the hang of things. They were always aware of my curriculum, and reviewed tests and quizzes with me. We also did supplementary textbooks, and studied over the summers.
If I had to put a number on it, I'd say that my parents believed that they were 50% responsible for their kids' education. They were equal partners with my teachers (and me)... if I didn't learn something, it was just as much their responsibility as my teacher's.
I am beginning to feel like not a lot of people share my parents' views. There are home-schooling parents, who are 100% responsible for their kids' education. Then there is the prevailing view, which seems to put 90-100% of the responsibility on teachers. But I'm wondering if there are other parents/families that embrace the 50%/50% equal partnership model, where responsibility for your LO's education is evenly divided between parents and teachers.
Do you guys feel like you will be in a partnership with your LO's teachers? In general, what would you say is the percentage of your LO's education that you feel responsible for?
