I have a Medela pump and can't really get much past the minimum setting without pain. It's just been a few days. I saw the LC today and she said that you should be half way between minimum and maximum, at least. These nipples need to man up!

I always instantly turn it to the maximum. My nips laugh at the minimum setting. I don't know if that's good or bad though.

I started at the maximum and turned it down to a low speed once the milk was flowing.

I always had it pretty close to the max. It didn't help though. I still produced almost nothing

@Andrea: I think I got that tip from the Ameda website...slower speeds pump more milk. Good luck!

I started at 3 to minimum (it hurt!!) and then gradually moved up as I felt less pain. Now I'm at second to maximum.

I always used a low setting, and produced decently on it. A few days in, when I was pumping in the nicu, the lactation consultant came in and scolded me. She reached over and turned it up to medium. I told her that I was doing fine, thank you, and to leave it be.

Mine is usually between 5-7 out of 10. Ever so often I'll turn it to a 7, but normally a 6 is hard enough for me.
