I just learned that our elementary school starts at 8:40 - I feel like that is pretty late! Don't most parents have to be at work by 9!? Our middle school starts much earlier and so does the high school. What time does elementary school start in your district?

The doors open at 8:45 and instruction begins at 9:00.

I think it starts somewhere around 7:45am but I'm not sure. I see the kids walking to school around 7:30am.
They are done then at 2:15pm.

K-8 schools like mine are 9:15-4:00 (So late) -
Our private school starts at 7:50 but the public school close to our house starts at 8:30 (which I thought was late!).

8:40 - 3:40... they start right away with a full day in K. That seems like such a long day.

Ours starts at 915 and gets out around 4. I think it's great -- the other option is a 730ish start that gets out around 2. That'd be WAY too early for my kids to be on-time and functional (and a pain for me to get them there...).
At first I thought the late start was weird and super inconvenient for working parents, but honestly no school day/time lines up exactly with working hours anymore, so most kids have to do either beforecare, aftercare, or both!

We are 7:45 - 2:45. Probably good for parents who work outside of the home but I wish it was a tad later. I have to get DS up at 6:30 and he could really use a little extra sleep, even though we get him to bed at 8 at the latest.

I drive by ours on my way to work and parents are usually dropping off between 8:20 to like 8:30 ish so I'm assuming school starts before 9.

Drop off starts at 720, class starts 740.

We actually have multiple times, I think so that the city doesn't need as many buses. The times are 7:45, 7:55, 8:25, and 8:55. There are 12 elementary schools.

@KayKay: that's true but it would be nice to only have to do before OR after care! I have a flexible schedule so fortunately we can swing it.

Ours is 8:50-3:06. I don't think they really care about working parents. At least, not in my town. They have some sort of early dismissal or non school day every single month of the year.

All the elementary schools in our district start at 7:45. Middle school is 8:25 and high school 9:00.

7:50, with doors open 30 minutes ahead of time. As a result we only need after care. It would suck to need both before and after care!

@shootingstar: this, totally. my DD2 did a part-time preschool program last year that synced calendars with the local schools. they had so many random days off -- not just the typical holidays/breaks. it's ridiculous.

8 am start for the local elementary. We can hear the bells from our house.

Our district starts late, 9:05. School gets out at 3:37.
The middle school starts earlier and the high school even earlier. -
Our elementary school will start at 8:05am and get out at 2:10pm for K-3rd and 2:15pm for 4th-5th. Then every Wednesday they are out an hour early at 1:10/1:15pm. I'm keeping my fingers crossed we can get into their after school program.

7:05!! Yikes!!! Our district only has one fleet of buses, so they pick up elementary, then high school, then middle. High school starts at 7:35, and middle school starts at 8:15. Elementary gets out at 2:10, high school at 3:35, middle school at 4:15.

Not sure what time our school district starts, but I always thought they had it backwards. They should start the elementary school kids the earliest since they tend to be awake earlier, while high school kids tend to be the ones who want to sleep in! When I was young, it was 9am for 1st-5th grade.

@2PeasinaPod: That's how it is here, but I figured it makes more sense for older kids to be out earlier since they may have to watch the little ones, or have after-school jobs, extracurriculars, etc.

@winniebee: I would just love a job that starts at 9!!! All workplaces here basically start at 8.
Elementary is at 8:30 but you can drop off at 7:45. Kids go either to the playground or cafeteria
They are done then at 2:15pm.
