Where I grew up: 8:15-3:15, M-F.
Where I work: 7:45, 8:15, or 8:45, until 2:45, 3:15, or 3:45. Every Wednesday is an early release for professional development (ugh), and so they get out at 11:45(!!), 12:15, or 12:45.

One factor to consider is that for us, and for many schools, there is a flex time of about 20-25 minutes of when classrooms are open but "class" hasn't started. I teach in a low income community so we provide breakfast in the classroom during that time.
