My consult visit is next month. My husband and I will both attend. Now should probably be the time I do a little homework on fertility stuff. What should I read before I meet with the RE? What should I expect on the visit? Are there any questions I should ask?

Record your medical history and your DH's so you have it handy along with any medications you're taking. My initial appointment was a discussion of medical histories, a sonogram, prescriptions for a ton of blood work, and a discussion of possible treatments. Good luck!

Agree with swedishfish ,definitely bring your charting history if you have it, or any data on your cycles, medical history, test results if youve done any. We asked what the short term and long term treatment path would be and success rates of what they propose. How fast they process results and get back to you maybe? I realized from these boards that some people don't get immediate test results and I thought that was the norm since my office always gets back to me same day.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: When we did our initial consult the RE went through a very detailed medical history for my SO and I, I had a physical exam and we were given lab requisitions and I had an appointment for an HSG. The cycle after that they had me do a full cycle of monitoring with blood work and ultrasound as well.
After all that was done we sat down with the RE and discussed what they felt was a reasonable course of treatment given our test results.
As far as questions go here are a couple. 1. When do they do cycle monitoring (i.e. is there a set time of day, do you get an appointment)? Are there any shutdown times (i.e. Christmas break) where patients are not able to cycle? Will you always see your own doctor or do they have a group practice where you see whoever is on that day? Price list for all procedures?

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: It is a procedure where they put dye into your uterus to check and make sure that both your tubes are open. Check out this thread where lots of the ladies have shared their experiences.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: @bluestriped bee: made up a great list of infertility abbreviations. You may want to check that our so you're more comfortable with all the lingo. It's a lot to take in, but you'll be comfortable with all the terms in no time.
My RE threw a lot of information at me the first time we met and we lined up testing. I found the 2nd time we met to discuss results the more appropriate time for lots of questions. Since your head may be swimming, you could ask what to do if you had follow up questions (call the RE's nurse, email them directly, etc.)
I also think it's good to have an idea of what you want/are willing to do in terms of treatment. Again, that may be better discussed after you have all your results. But my RE was willing to be as conservative or as aggressive as we wanted. Not all office's are like that, so it can be helpful to think about what you want, and see if the RE would be on the same page as you.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Everyone else has great advice, so I don't really have much to add. I wouldn't skip any tests the RE suggests though (like an HSG), because you never know what test will give you an answer. My HSG was simple, and it unblocked a tube. I think Happygal meant treatments, like if you will be willing to proceed with IUI, IVF, etc if it comes to that.
