Mine started detaching during pushing, and came out with Olive! So I never had to push it out.
What about you?

Pushed for maybe 2 pushes. Came right out maybe 5 minutes after DD was born.

Took longer than normal to come out, followed by a huge hemorrhage.

@DillonLion: Same here. That part was pretty hazy though.
The OB offered to let us see it but we both declined...I wish I had now, though!

I don't remember much, since I didn't feel it with the epidural, except some pressure. However I remember being worried about how they were gonna pack it up for us to bring it home..

I don't think I had to push it out- they pushes in my belly some and I remember feeling it slide out. It was a total non event in any case. They offered to let me see t but I just asked it if cane out all in one piece and looked good/healthy. Now I kind I wished I looked but oh well.
nectarine / 2220 posts
Total non-event. They handed me the baby, and it felt about about as much of an issue as blowing your nose when it's really full/solid. Nobody offered to let me see it though.

I frankly don't remember at all... I know it was tiny and the cord was shredded and we were all freaked the f out that it was such a train wreck and yet the baby was fine.
papaya / 10473 posts
I don't even remember it, so i guess it wasn't bad at all. I was preoccupied by my sweet baby boy
bananas / 9118 posts
I don't remember, it wasn't bad because I was laughing and joking around with the doctors at that point. It was really cool to look at though. I remember touching it, but I was already bloody from briefly holding the baby.
pear / 1812 posts
It was a no big deal thing. While she was on my stomach they had me give one big push and it slid right out. It felt super weird, like I just have birth to a jelly fish, but once it was out, nothing else was said about it.
grapefruit / 4120 posts
Horrible and probably worse than pushing the baby out. I mean, super painful and no payoff! I guess in retrospect maybe they were afraid some was left in there? There was way too much poking around involved.
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
Painful, came out about 10 minutes after baby. But everything was painful at that point!
pomegranate / 3983 posts
Came maybe 10 minutes later with a small push. It pretty much slipped right out compared to pushing out the baby. It was actually big and awesome.
pomelo / 5621 posts
I had to give a small push but I didn't feel anything because of the epi.
clementine / 918 posts
is it weird that I don't even remember from 4 months ago? It was so not a big deal after birth. Stitches on the other hand, I remember vividly.
honeydew / 7589 posts
Well the OB yanked it out, forcibly, seconds after Vi was born before it had detached and caused a huge bleed (not to mention hurting like hell). He was an ass (and a horrible doctor).
pomegranate / 3791 posts
Didn't feel it at all. I had a C-section.
But I made sure they knew beforehand that I wanted there to be zero chance of me accidentally getting a glimpse of it. I'm so squeamish, it's ridiculous!
pomegranate / 3003 posts
I barely really noticed it. I was totally awestruck, and loving on DD. My OB asked for a push; I think I gave two, and out it came. I remember it feeling squishy, and that was it.
bananas / 9227 posts
Painful. It took all of my strength to get LO out and it took a little while to push that thing out.
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22276 posts
I think it was just pulled out? I remember feeling so much relief afterwards.
pomelo / 5326 posts
Non event here too! I was busy cuddling LO and doctors were busy stitching up. I remember then saying they were going to deliver it but I wasn't even looking. I did
Not have to push I think they just pulled it out. I never even saw what it looked like!
GOLD / wonderful coffee bean / 18478 posts
I barely remember. After pushing my big babies out, it was a non-event both times for the placenta!
papaya / 10570 posts
It was WEIRD! They gave me an injection so I didn't have to push, it just plopped out - maybe 5 minutes after DD was born. I've heard that you don't notice it but I totally did, I felt a sharp and yet dull ache around the cervix/up inside area (maybe a contraction?? Maybe the pressure of it sliding through? I don't know) then a "flobobidibop" sensation as it plopped out!
papaya / 10560 posts
I just remember my ob going, "and here comes the afterbirth!" And it slid right out.
pomegranate / 3917 posts
Awful. It was about an hour/hour and a half of unexpected pushing. I still hadn't held LO, the pain and pushing was awful. Ugh, I kinda forgot about it until now. Hope that doesn't happen again!
GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts
I was busy watching the NICU team check over LO due to meconium in the amniotic fluid so I was preoccupied. It came out quickly though and my OBGYN started my stitches.
watermelon / 14206 posts
No big deal either time. Both labors I was so happy that the baby was out, the placenta felt like a piece of cake.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
I don't even remember. I thought about it after that I didn't even notice/feel her taking her out at all. I was holding R and I know she was working in that area but didn't feel anything. I just remember her saying I had a spot that wouldn't stop bleeding so she left some gauze up there for a couple hours.
coconut / 8861 posts
It was a quick push when they were stitching me up and cleaning up LO. It only hurt when the nurse pushed on my uterus to start the decreasing process. I hated that postpartum more than anything. It made the after pains worse.
clementine / 943 posts
Just a little push and then I think cherrybee described it perfectly! I remember feeling empty/relieved afterwards, like, "Ahh, now it's REALLY over."
pear / 1664 posts
The doctor and nurse kneeding my stomach, pushing on it and really firmly yanking. Felt like having my insides stirred up. Ugh.
pomegranate / 3388 posts
Mine just sort of fell out on its own while the doctor was working on stitching me up. The stitching part was pretty uncomfortable, so I was far more focused on that pain and checking out my new daughter than what was going on with my placenta. I wouldn't have even known it came out except that the doctor said "here comes the placenta!". I did have an epidural, so I'm sure I would have felt it if I hadn't been pretty numb down there.
grapefruit / 4441 posts
It came out with just a push it two. It was a little painful, but I didn't care at that point. I did ask to see it and the doctor got really excited to explain everything to my mom and I (my Dad and DH passed on seeing it!). It was gross but pretty neat at the same time.
blogger / pomegranate / 3491 posts
It's weird, but I have zero memory of that part. Like others, I do totally remember the pain of the stitches (I remember saying that they hurt more than natural childbirth), but the placenta must have come out really easily.
pomelo / 5093 posts
Non event here. I had a whopping big epidural at that point, so I didn't feel anything the last hour or so.
