Did everyone start with oatmeal or fruit (if you did BLF)? Or something else?

Mashed/Puree sweet potato and avocado. For a baby new to solids, thin it out with breastmilk or formula.

We tried oatmeal and my kid wasn't having anything to do with us trying to spoon feed him so we moved on to chunks of avocado.

@T.H.O.U.: Oh, good idea to thin it out with formula or breast milk.

We tried baby lead weaning but LO was not ready for it so we gave him oatmeal/multigrain cereal and mashed sweet potatoes to start.

@bluestriped bee: Also dont try to mash with a fork or anything. Use a blender or food processor to really get all the chunks out. Any little chunk or anything too thick that sticks to their tongue or roof of mouth made my kids gag.

We did oatmeal. My son loved it. After a couple of weeks we started to mix in some purees. I think the first one was carrots.

Sweet potato was first. We did banana and avocado next, although not sure which was first.

Big wedges of avocado and banana that she could grab onto and gum off pieces of, which she then mushed up in her mouth. I tried doing a breastmilk/avocado/banana puree but she was kind of like WTF, so, after that I didn't bother wasting the breastmilk.

Sweet potato! I think we followed with mostly veggies first, then moved to fruit purees. I didn't do oatmeal, but we waited until dd was 6 months to start!

butternut squash I think? Could be sweet potato. It was definitely orange.

Avocado, which she hated. Then sweet potato, which she took to immediately!

Banana, then avocado, then sweet potatoes. I tried oatmeal, but she didn't like the texture at first, so we stuck to fruits/veggies for the first couple of months.

Sweet potato!
We did a ton of vegetables before we gave DD any fruit. I didn't want her to taste the sweet stuff and deside that vegetables were no longer good.

Sweet potato wedges, then avocado slices. We did baby led weaning mostly. I tried oatmeal at one point and she has never been a fan of it. Never bothered with rice cereal. She likes the sweet potato and avocado both right away!
We did do prune purees eventually though- solids made her constipated until she was really crawling and moving around on her own.

Multigrain cereal mixed with mashed banana. I think next was butternut squash.

Her first food was frozen strawberries in a mesh feeder, more just for fun to try a taste of something than anything else. Next was tiny pieces of broccoli, very well steamed. The first and a half or so of giving her anything was more to let her taste things, explore, and see what food was all about. We started on the early side because she was so eager and interested in food. Now at 6.5 months, she loves food. Hasn't tried anything yet that she doesn't like.

Wedges of avocado and roasted acorn squash. He gagged pretty good the first time he ate food but it only took a couple times to realize he needed to chew first

Officially I think it was roasted sweet potatoes. But we gave her some nibbles of our food prior to that so I'm not sure. Maybe some of DH's baked sweet potato!

Oatmeal, and he didn't care for it. 2nd food was mashed avocado mixed with formula. He loved it, still loves guac

Rice cereal, oatmeal, all the grains, to check for allergies. Then I think it was peas? Some kind of green veggie. Then orange, yellow, then fruits. Lo2 hasn't started yet. I'm enjoying his bottle-only time before adding that in, since he doesn't seem particularly ready for it yet.

Pureed carrots. He loved them! We started baby food at 5 months. We skipped rice cereal and went straight to fruits/veggies.
