I know I am very early in my pregnancy but I was wondering if I could get some insights:
I am due March 5 and the plan is for me to take the rest of the school year off (I am a teacher) for paid maternity leave from my disability insurance. Then, I will have my paid summer. The plan is for me to stay home for the fall semester and return spring semester 2016. Part of fall semester will be partial pay (my pay less what I have to pay for the sub) and the rest of the time would be FMLA (no pay.)
DH and I have saved some money to make ends meet while I am not working. Our financial planner thinks we would use most of it, but I am sure we could economize more.
Anyway, if we deplete that savings more my time off, we will have to save up for two more years (from today) to buy a house. The house we are in (DH's former bachelor pad) is cheap rent and a great location but only has one bathroom and is pretty small. I am already frazzled by it. I may or may not have had to go pee outside before.
Would you rather go back to work sooner and be able to buy a larger house better suited for a family sooner or stay home with baby a few months longer and, subsequently, delay buying a house?
I understand that no one knows my situation better than me, but I am curious as to what you would do.
