@CupQuakeWalk: it didn't help that as a September baby, I was just after the cutoff. I was 18 my entire senior year. My friends the same age were always a grade ahead.

@Mrs. Pen: that does suck:( I wasn't a September baby (Feb) but our school had a "early college" option for honor roll kids, where I could be in college and the credits will count towards HS as well.

@CupQuakeWalk: similary here, we had the ability to do all college classes for free. I think you do have to be in the top 20% of your class to do it, but I was homeschooled so I was a shoo-in
(kidding, I still had to submit a transcript, gpa and take a test).
