I had to update my security clearance at work and provide a personal reference, and note how long they'd known me. I used my best friend since the fourth grade, and had to write twenty years.
When the hell did I get old enough to know people for TWENTY YEARS?!?
Oh, and last time I got together with said best friend, we drank wine and compared pension plans.

I don't know if it's their reactions to the early internet, that I remember so well, that made me feel old or my reactions to the teenagers themselves! They are so annoying! Ugh, I'm old!

Hm, I guess I keep up with stuff more than I thought. My moments are more like seeing recent photos and noticing new lines around my eyes, or feeling like I have no energy anymore like all the youngins out drinking on the weekend, while I fall asleep to a movie at 10 PM!

I had to Google that song Turn Down for What.. At least, I think it's a song? Seriously. Old.

I realized the other day I graduated from college 4 years ago...it doesn't seem that long ago!
Oh and about a month ago DH and I were telling my little sisters (that are 14 & 16 years younger than me) about how you used to have to put film in cameras and get them developed, but they didn't believe us. That was a crazy thing to think about....I felt like that was one of the first times a conversation with them really showed how things have changed since I was their age!
honeydew / 7917 posts
@debbiei8: Haha. My 3 year old thinks it's normal to use film and bring it to the camera store to develop. He pretends to use film in his toy cameras and uses the view finder. He also thinks instant cameras are normal too...
I live by the college campus where I went to school and graduated 6 years ago. I see young people all the time, and everything about them makes me feel so old. Also my baby sister who is 9 years younger than me just completed her first year of college. Umm... Wasn't she just a baby?

Oh I have one, I was talking to a coworker about the facebook that we got the summer before Freshman year of college. It was literally a book that was printed and contained headshots of the incoming class. We called it the facebook. SHe was like, wait, what? You mean Facebook?

My nephew was working on a project for school (he's 12) and was using google for all his research. I commented on how lucky he was, b/c I didn't have google "when I was a kid". Then I started trying to explain libraries and card catalogs to him ...

@mrbee: I can KIND OF get not getting the Richard Gere gerbil reference. But not knowing who Richard Gere even IS?! OHMYGAWD.
I feel old every July when the new interns start at the hospital. They just look like such babies.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: There was a rumor started about a hundred years ago that Richard Gere was admitted to the ED one night when a gerbil in his butt. http://www.crushable.com/2012/08/31/entertainment/richard-gere-gerbil-urban-legend-birthday-5-facts-626/

Whenever we hire someone at work who was born in the 90's and they are making a "real" salary
When all I can think about at work on a Friday is going home and relaxing on the couch... what happened to spending 2 hours getting ready to go out and party until 4am?!

When I ran into the mom of the little girls (they were 3 and 4) I babysat in high school. They are going to university!

@looch: hahahaha omg I've never even thought about that! We got one of those, and it literally says "Freshman Facebook" on the cover. It really was our version of Facebook... I remember we'd meet someone at a party and then go look them up in the facebook LOL ugh so old.

I play soccer on the weekends and we played a really young team last week. They were fast and in shape and I just could not keep up. I remember thinking man... I'm over 30... and my body is not what it used to be.

I work in a high school so I have these moments daily. But, one comes to mind. A kid in my study hall told me how "I Just Wanna Fly" by Sugar Ray is a "classic". Omg.

While sitting at a break room table, I saw a magazine with Mark Wahlberg on the cover. I said, "oh Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch" to Sydney (who was about 15 yrs younger than me). And she said, "WHO?!" To which I replied," you know the song Good Vibrations??? Don't make me sing it"
Gosh I'm old.

@imbali: wow, that's nuts!!
When my students' parents are younger than I am. Also, when I talk to my 12 year old cousin about things and he looks at me like I'm crazy-like dial up Internet, cameras with film, when everyone DIDNT have a cell phone (gasp!), etc.

@imbali: Wow, that's an amazing site!! It depresses me to no end that 1999 was more than half a lifetime ago for me! How?? I remember 99 vividly! And almost all of my favorite albums came out that year, haha.

I have these moments but I "feel" young the majority of the time..just have more responsibilities!
honeydew / 7091 posts
@imbali: Woah! Wikipedia was launched exactly halfway through my lifetime! That's weird... Also weird that they can add together two 'famous' people to equal my age.
Realizing my high school 10 year reunion is next year. It still feels like I JUST graduated!
Also my baby sister just passed the age that I stopped keeping track of my own age. (I stopped counting/caring after 22, and now she's 23!)

Speaking of 1999, my boss and I were laughing about the old Conan skit "In the Year 2000" and singing the song and our 25 year old intern thought we we were nuts. It hit me that I was watching him do that skit 15+ years ago . Oh, and I had to tell our intern what a banana clip was, she had no idea.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: YES!! Nirvana came on our classic rock station and I nearly crashed the car. I couldn't deal

I felt really old this past weekend when I was at a bachelorette party in Boston for my cousin and we went to a club at 1 a.m. I felt old because a.) my feet were killing me, I just wanted to sit down, and I had been ready for bed for about 3 hours at that point b.) I was thoroughly disgusted by the crowd of people and the sticky floor c.) all the people in there looked like babies to me
...and the crowning moment was...
d.) when a guy started trying to chat me up and said he had just graduated from MIT, then when he asked my age said, "That's OK, I like older women!"

I just wanted to chime in a third time and say I still think 1999 was yesterday.
I loved 90s week on jeopardy. I fucking nailed every question.

I had to take out my belly button ring yesterday because it was visible under my pregnant chick clothes - and realized that I'd had it in for 18 years -- longer that I lived without it!
Old. (and a little pathetic that I was sad to take it out even though I'm way too old for it.)
