Seems like it really varies here - 10-15 an hour, though 15 is the norm.

I just secured my first ever babysitter today (daughter of a friend).
$10/hr

8-10$/hr. We're using one for the first time in December and she's only 8$/hr (and she's a teacher at G's school! woo!).

We pay $12/hour, plus cab fare home. Might be worth noting that LO is always sleeping by the time our sitters arrive.

It's 15 regardless if whether LO is sleeping! Oh well

Babysitters here start at $20/hr and it goes up from there. Needless to say, we don't use babysitters. On the odd occasion we need one, we ask a couple of DH's colleagues who absolutely love our LO. They refuse money so we usually buy them dinner and/or give them a bottle of wine.

I don't know what the going rate is but we've paid some friend's young teenage daughters $10/hour to be "mommy's helpers" (they play with LO while we are home, working upstairs (or taking a nap upstairs!). We haven't hired a babysitter to be home while we are out, I'd pay $10-$15/hour for that.

$15, but one of my friends daughters just started and she watches the kids for $25 bucks regardless of how long we are gone. Usually like 3 hours so it's a good deal

$7-$8 for a teenager, less for a young teen (like 12-15). For someone who is older and experienced (18+) I would say $10.
When I worked as a nanny I was paid $10/hr with 8 years experience! $11 when they had a second kid. May have been the family though- a friend nannied twins and she had less experience than I and she made $12/hr.

Seriously... What some people quote as the going rate for a babysitter in their area is what *I* make at my current job!!!

@Mrs. Pen: wow, that's low!!! What's minimum wage there? My sister is 15 and makes $12, but would probably make more if she could drive and didn't have to be picked up.
My other little sister is 21 and makes $20-$22/hour as a nanny.
We haven't had to hire a baby sitter yet but would pay $15.

@Mrs. Pen: right?! We'd never go anywhere if it was 20$/hr...

$10/hr - but that is for a daycare worker who we know and trust. We haven't received quotes from anyone else.

Ugh that seems so high! I remember when I used to babysit back in the day for $5/hr or less... Yep, I realize how much that statement ages me

We are paying her day care teacher $12 an hour tomorrow. First time we had to hire one. Usually use family but they are all going to wedding with us.

$15 an hour - which is why we never go out! After paying the babysitter and having dinner and whatever else we just spent $250! ouch!
We wait until my mom is town and have a free babysitter =)

Next Wednesday is the first time we're using a paid sitter. It's a teacher from her school.... I'm expecting her to tell me 10-12 an hour?

We haven't had to hire a babysitter yet but my coworker recently paid $20/hr and they were gone for 5 hours! I'm so glad we have friends and family that will watch DS. All we have to give them is a bottle or two of wine!

I pay $12 an hour. She's our former nanny. When she was the nanny it was $10 an hour. It's the going rate here according to care.com.
