@hellobeeboston: thanks! I think I actually like it even more for a girl, but DH likes it more for a boy, so whichever, we will be happy!

@Mrs. Sunshine: My hubby was the same way. But, he chose Evelyn for her middle name (it was his beloved grandma's name) and he also named our dog. So, I had a little extra say in the first name. He actually loves it now because he knows how much I love it.

Our DD's name is Phoenix Elizabeth. We wanted to eliminate any nicknames that would follow her into adulthood, as well as something not on the top 100.

@loki: haha I'm half-Japanese, too
I've always liked Akira - my sister would have been named this if she'd been a boy. Plus Akira Kurosawa and his Samurai movies - DH does martial arts and part of his training is with swords so I thought the name fit

@MK0180: so beautiful! My DH is so anti including a Japanese name and I have no idea why. He keeps saying "They're getting a Japanese last name!" I'm still pushing for it!

@loki: Our daughter is "Alba", and no one has called her Ali. Just "Al" ... My best friend is Ali, and we wanted to give a wink to her name with Alba, but didn't want them having the same nickname. I feel like "Al" would be the shorter version of Alice.
