So far the only fruit R will eat regularly is banana. She will eat grapes and blueberries sometimes when I send for a snack at day care but won't at home. We thought maybe an apple, but I don't know if she will be able to bite it. She has 8 teeth.

i let her try thin, peeled slices at 10-12 months, and she only had a few teeth. Unfortunately, she is not a fan.

Eight months. She had eight teeth and demolished it. They are still one of her favorite snacks. If she sees me eating one she runs over and begs for a bite.

@oliviaoblivia: Did you slice it? What kind of apple was it?

He was young - maybe 8 months
I peeled an entire apple and let him have it- he loved it!!!

@Smurfette: No. We were at a wedding with an apple theme and they had bushels on the tables. DH was eating one and DD reached up, grabbed it, took a bite, then refused to give it back. We watched her really carefully and she did fine with it.
I tried to give her sliced apples for a while but she really prefers to eat them from the core.
ETA: No idea what variety.

8 teeth, yeah she can do it.
I have him peeled and sliced apples at about 9m old because he had 5 teeth.
At 18m now, he has 8-9 teeth and eats them whole (not sliced) BUT I always, always peel (skin) them.

LO loves apples. I try to slice them up a bit for him. At first, we peeled them then stopped it. This weekend, he had some non peeled apple slices happily. We put peanut butter on it. He sucked off the peanut butter and ate around the peel a bit. He's 18 months old.

I cut them up for her at first but can't remember when it was! she was eating almost everything I offered her by 9-10 months (with only 2 teeth, lol). she's super motivated by food.
she eats a whole apple now. I just peel it first. I think today's was a gala?
eggplant / 11824 posts
My LO could eat thinly sliced apples with 0 teeth. LO had always loved applesauce, and has been biting into whole apples since maybe 8-9 months when she finally got a few little teeth in.

My 8 month old loves apple - I slice about 1/3 of it and put it in the microwave for 30-60 seconds to soften it. Then she goes to town! I leave the peel on as it helps her pick it up.

Pretty early. I would cut all the skin off (and eat them myself - actually my favorite part of an apple!!), and then cut reaaaalllyyyyy thin (paper-like) slices to give her. As I saw how she was doing with the apple slices I slowly made them thicker and thicker

My son would not touch raw apples until about 16 months. And only then in very thin slices. He still won't take a bite out of a whole apple

Fuji apples a few months ago. He has 4 on bottom and 4 + 2 molars on top.
I cut in half or quarters and give them to my kids

So apparently I have been a chicken in giving R some apples!

I used to nanny and would peel a whole apple and give it to my little 10 month old. She loved it and you really can't bite too big of a slice if you're watching them. I gave her Fujis or Galas (any of the softer or sweet varieties) and she would go to town. Make sure she's somewhere where she can't dribble everywhere though!

@Smurfette: I gave my LO a whole apple the other day at 11 months and she had a great go at it. Ate maybe 3/4 of the way around and she only has 6 teeth. She figured it out pretty quickly!

LO only has 4 teeth and I've been giving it to her since about 9 months. I cube it. She likes them a lot. Sometimes I bake an apple with cinnamon for a different texture.

My LO had trouble with apples until recently. She gagged a bit even with 8 teeth. She is doing fine now though at 15 mo with 10+ teeth (2 are on their way in)...usually I give her fairly thin slices with no skin, but she will also come take bits off my apple and does fine now.

I did a half apple at 6m, but he had no teeth and it was more like gnawing on it. He was eating small pieces of chopped apple around 10m and sliced apple at 1.5. I sliced them really thin. Just before 2 he started eating whole apples.

@Smurfette: gave my LO apple steamed before he had any teeth, and tried applesauce too. Then once he had just two bottom teeth he could devour an apple slice!

@cmomma17: she loves applesauce! I guess I will pick some up this weekend. I only eat Granny Smith but I am thinking throne wouldn't be a good idea!
pomelo / 5628 posts
I let him eat straight from the apple if I'm eating it (also 8 teeth), but I wouldn't send it for a snack quite yet I don't think.

A slice of raw apple was A's first food!! IIRC she was about 5.5 months old and although she had four teeth she mainly tried sucking the juice out
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts
We tried pretty early on but he got contact dermatitis from it so we held off. At 15 mths he eats them whole (peeled). He was an early tether n has 12 teeth now. So we just watch him carefully but he chows down well

@Smurfette: around 8 months. J loves apple and he has 7 teeth... we just slice it into thin slices.
pomegranate / 3393 posts
He loves apple slices so far- we started from the beginning, 7 months or so?
pomegranate / 3329 posts
She's 7 months and loves to gum them, she's almost got 2 teeth now. I buy Opal apples.
pineapple / 12234 posts
Wow, I'm surprised so many LO's do well with them so early. E, at 15 months, choked almost every time she had apples. It wasn't until 20 months that she handled them okay (with 12 teeth).
Instead, I bought dehydrated apples for snacking which she ate from 12 months and up.

Probably about 9-10 months, I started giving her thin, peeled slices. She loved teething on them. ~ 10-11 months she started wanting to chew on my bigger pieces and I started by holding them for her and watching.
pomegranate / 3863 posts
Probably around 10 or 11 months. He was just pushing the pieces around his mouth and sucking on them so I help off for a bit and he's doing better with them now at almost 15 months because he just cut some molars. Don't rush it if you're not sure if she is ready!

I've been doing apples since the beginning but she doesn't eat much of them. I usually microwave them an add a little cinnamon
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@blackbird: Cinnamon apples are on the menu for lunch today, so I will looking on her report to see if she eats them!
GOLD / pineapple / 12662 posts
@Smurfette: I don't want to burst any bubble of expectation here . . . but I will say that in my experience, what my LO eats for her teachers is not what she will eat at home. At school, she usually eats a few peas or one or two green beans--nada at home--and also eats things like pasta that she also won't eat for me. Not to be all doom and gloom - some things have carried over, like her love of cheese slices/string cheese and raisin bread with cream cheese!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@MsLipGloss: Oh I know! She would eat grapes and blueberries for a snack but not for us at home. Now that she is the toddler room, they provide snacks. I just thought that if she likes them, I will definitely try at home.
GOLD / pineapple / 12662 posts
@Smurfette: Always good to try . . . I always appreciate new ideas and suggestions that her teachers have . . . I honestly don't where I would be without their help!
