Oh gosh right away. Pasta with red sauce and ground turkey is a common meal for us! She loves it!

@blackbird: I have a feeling he would love something like that! We're not doing much in terms of grains until 12 months but I would think the sauce + ground meat with some veggies could be a good meal for him!
Maybe we'll give it a go soon. He's coming up on 9 months.

I think so too! We were going to avoid grains for a bit but she struggled to eat anything without teeth (they just came in at month 10) so we do whole grain pasta now. It was one of her first whole foods, though. We were on purées for a bit

@blackbird: We may end up giving pasta if his teeth don't come in soon, too. Sounds like we have similar kids. Ours is almost 9 months with no sign of teeth! We're running out of options to introduce him that he can easily get down without teeth and I don't want him on purees for much longer because I think exploring textures and such is so important. I tried doing the 2 ingredient pancakes (with eggs and banana) for him to have something to practice self-feeding and eating and he was NOT a fan.
Figuring out solids and when to introduce stuff gives me a headache.

@coopsmama: LO is also almost 9 months, also no teeth! He's gummed on slices of tomato in the last month or so-I peel the skin off, he seems to like it. I don't give him pasta because I fear it's too slippery-he likes to slurp things down!

7 months? In the form of jambalaya. He's always been a little meh about pasta with red sauce.

@MoonMoon: What is up with these late-teethers? I have to admit I love his gummy smile but I also think he looks sorta funny haha! Our son is BIG -- in 18 month clothes, weighing 24 lbs, and super tall -- so he looks like a little toddler with no teeth.

If you give them sauce+ meat and veggies do you mix and purée it all together?@blackbird: how do you feed your lo this?

Early - maybe around 8-9 months. Even without teeth, their gums can break down a fair amount of food! We do tomato sauce on pasta, with ground turkey/beef and onions and mushrooms, on chicken with a bit of cheese, in soups and chili, etc. roasted tomatoes are also really good!

@coopsmama: um, do we have the exact same child?? Same age, weight, very tall, same size clothes, no teeth! I also love his little toothless grin, but it'll be nice to see some teeth too!

@MoonMoon: That is too funny! It's nice to "meet" another baby with that age and size. Everyone acts like our LO is so big -- calling him a moose and ox -- which I guess he IS big, but at the same time it just feels normal.

From the start of solids, he got some of whatever we were having, just mashed up a little more.

@coopsmama: @MoonMoon: I have to jump in here because I have a BIG boy too!!!! ..except he does have his bottom teeth and getting his top fronts right now. He s 8 months in 2 days, weighs 26 lbs. in 18 month clothing!! He's a big boy!!!! Good to know there's other mummy's out there like me!!! Everyone I know has small babies!!!

@coopsmama: @jh524: I feel very protective of my big little guy! My least favorite euphemism is when my MIL calls him ”a handful”-constantly!
Sorry to go off topic! With tomatoes, citrus, kiwi, etc. we just carefully watch for a reaction or discomfort, haven't noticed any yet.

Right away in small amounts, so about 6.5 months. I actually didn't really know this was something to avoid, and it never seemed to bother her. She liked a little red sauce on her meatballs, or on toast or pancakes.
