we talked with our Dr earlier this month at the girls' 4 month check up and we're not feeding them cereal. they will be 5 months on April 7th and once they're ready we'll start them on solids.

I started cereal and solids at 4 months, although I was planning on waiting until 6 months. My doctor suggested started them earlier as my LO was having issues gaining weight (and keeping her food down due to extreme reflux) and she has done great and finally started to gain weight.

We started at 4 months but DS hated cereal so I tried again at 5. He ate it a little bit more and then I was like screw it. It was a pain and he loved the boob more. I introduced fruits and veggies at 6 months and he loves them, so we pretty much skipped cereal altogether.

We waited until 6 months plus a few days, mostly due to scheduling and general laziness. But we started with oatmeal and not rice cereal.

The AAP recommendation is 6 months.

Hope this is helpful! Lo is starting only now to get the hang of solids (she's almost 8 months). She was totally not interested early on. We're doing a mixture of BLW and purees.

we never did cereals. sometimes lo will have oatmeal for breakfast, but that was introduced long after we'd already started him on fresh fruits and vegetables.

@highwire: what are your hubs' reasons for wanting to start now?

@nikol: same. we began with fruit and veg around 5.5 months, and then i think he randomly had some rice porridge when he was 7 months old, and i bought baby oatmeal around 8 months old.

We just started at 5 months - we are introducing very slowly... And doing purées and oatmeal.... I was going to do BLW but may try to do more of that later

We started around 6.5 months. There's no need to rush to solids.

La Leche League says middle of the first year for foods ...

We never do cereals, but then I also delay foods completely until baby can eat things in their natural state (so no purees and stuff either). Usually that's around 10 months.

I think if you want to wait, then wait - every baby is ready in their own time.

Oh and our pediatrician suggested starting between 4 and 6 months. We waited a while because she just wasn't ready (and neither was I!)
