My LO is 9 months old and still EBF with solids. We're going on a trip overseas at 11 months and I'd like to completely wean him by then. We're going to ask his doctor about this and whether or not we can give him cow's milk at that time.
I know all the recommendations state that you should only feed breastmilk and/or formula until 12 months, but is that a hard rule or is it a bit flexible? When did you stop BM and/or formula and move to cow's milk?

Can you give formula for that last month or are you trying to avoid formula? I think the concern with cows milk is that it doesnt have the same amount of nutrients as breastmilk or formula so it isnt an adequate replacement until the child is atleast a year old

My Dr didn't give us the green light until 12 months...something about milk protein and digestive systems not being mature enough before then.

We dont give cows milk, but my pedi also didnt tell us to go ahead with anything besides breastmilk/formula in her sippy until 12 months. Id call and ask them

We just introduced DS to cow's milk this week; he's 10.5 months. He's not super interested yet, so he just has a few sips throughout the day. Our doctor said it's fine but not to push the issue until 12 months.

We started the transition of BM to BM+Whole Milk around 11.5 months, but my pediatrician already gave me the green light around 9 months. Granted my pediatricians practice is generally lax but I felt 9 months was way to early. My theory is this - baby's are not something with a alarm that "dings" at 12 months where cows milk is suddenly OK. You can probably try it and see if there is any adverse reaction, but I felt 12 months was a bendable rule unless there are any known allergies or digestive issues.

I was told 11 months i could start mixing it in with her formula.
