Almost all my friends made it to 6 months...I think largely based in the AAP's recommendation several years ago to breastfeed for 6 months

Now I think the AAP says to try for a year and my new mom friends are all trying to get to a year. I am 8 months pp and still breastfeeding. We did solids at 6 months.

I remember I couldn't wait to stop breastfeeding up until 4 months - then it got so much easier. Now at 8 months I'm kind of sad at the thought that breastfeeding will likely end soon. She is eating 3 meals of solids and only nursing 4 times a day. I heard lots of babies start to self wean as they increase their solids

@sandy: interesting! DS is 7 months, 3 meals solids during the day, teething and doesn't want to nurse during the day at all. I'm still pumping and he'll take the bottle and nurse at night but during the day he's not interested at all.

I had extremely low supply, and I stopped nursing right after 3 months. That's when I went back to work, and it wasn't worth it for me to pump at work, since I would produce less than an ounce at each setting. My original goal was to EBF for a year, but in the end I had to supplement with formula starting when DD was only 3 days old.

@rachiecakes: I heard some babies just kind of self wean as they start solids...just not as interested in nursing and doing really well with solids. Some babies are the opposite and it's a struggle to get them to eat and a battle to get them off the boon later.

@pastemoo: It was so hard in the beginning for me and so time consuming and stressful...like you I just had to take it day by day

my LO is only 2.5 months and we are going strong....I am pretty much obsessed with breastfeeding her. I can't wait for her to get hungry so I can feed her...I love it so much! I hope to go until 18 months at least....
is that weird? Lol

First one, I nursed til 9 months. Second one, til 10 months. Both times, my milk started decreasing and eventually I just stopped.

@pastemoo: Thanks! I really love BF'ing now and hopefully we don't hit anymore snafus (had month long case of mastitis in May which had me veerrrry close to wanting quit)

I agree with not setting any expectations. I decided to just do it for as long as I could. There were a lot of times in the first couple months where I was telling myself, "Just one more day and I'll quit tomorrow..." because it was really hard. Now my LO is 7 months and still nursing. I'm starting to get a little cocky though and now I want to nurse for a full year. We'll see!

@pastemoo: @sandy: The World Healthy Organization says to try to breastfeed for at least 24 months!

We are at 5 months and still doing pretty well! Like @Mrsdaredevil: said, I love breastfeeding him! He loves it soo much and while he eats he grins and talks to me - it's so freaking cute. I do want to try to make it to 24 months like the WHO recommends. But if I don't make it that long, I want to make it to at least one year.

It has been hard the last two months because we've had thrush really bad, and it really hurts/irritates LO's mouth. So he hasn't been able to get a full feeding everytime he nurses. He will unlatch and start crying from the pain. I feel so bad. The yeast infection just hasn't gone away. I'm pretty distraught over it. It's getting better, but still not gone. He's not crying anymore though. But it was definitely a bumpy ride and I was tempted to give up. I'm glad I didn't.

Liv turned a year old yesterday and we are still BFing. She nurses when she wakes up and as shes going to bed, and on weekends she nurses herself to sleep for her nap(s). I love it, I never imagined Id make it to a year but here I am!

I plan to BF DS until at least a year (made it to 14m with DD), we are introducing cereal very soon at 5m.

We made it to 5.5 months with exclusive BM. For the last couple of weeks, I decided to supplement with a formula bottle every other day or so. I am a WOHM and my supply just couldn't keep up any more and it was starting to stress me out worrying about whether or not I was going to have enough milk for him. Not sure when we will stop mostly BF'ing though. I am hoping to make it to a year, if things are going smoothly still...

@Amelieisme: I'm going through those same stresses right now. I stopped fenugreek because I wasn't sure if it was making my LO gassy. Our daycare is encouraging me to discontinue pumping for my sake and to push more solids. We're getting to solids, but aren't there yet. I love and cherish my nursing relationship, just not the one with my pump.

@2PeasinaPod: I had to give up pumping for the same reason. My commute was 1 hour and I felt like I was getting no work done at work. And my current job is stressing me out so much, my milk supply tanked. I'm still BFing in the morning. And I have a good freezer stash as well.
