I have no personal experience, since my baby ALWAYS woke up every 2-3 hours. But I have couple of friends with hard sleepers from the beginning--both BFers. One had no issues, and their baby started STTN early and fed a ton all day long. The other friend's baby started STTN but was not eating enough during the day, and my friend lost her supply and when the baby stopped gaining weight, she tried everything--powerpumping, SNS system, etc and she could never get her supply back up and had to combo feed from 2 months on.

Around 3 weeks once he hit birth weight (about 8.5 lbs)

We did it for a very long time, but my son was a preemie and always 1%. I think we did every 4 hours for 4 months. Dh would do one and I would do the other. Then we did a dream feed before we went to bed for months and months. My Lo is a sleeper and he also would only eat very small volumes (2 oz max for the longest time), so we had to feed him more times in the day...

Definitely talk to your doctor. We stopped waking once Xander hit his birth weight, but he also continued to wake every 3-4 hours on his own for a while. He didn't start doing those longer stretches until he was older.

Our doctor said we could stop as son as she gained back her birth weight.

We stopped waking when she hit birth weight at one week old. Four weeks seems really long.

I never did. She was back at birth weight the day after we left the hospital and no one said I should be waking her. I did get in trouble in the hospital because I didn't wake up to feed her when they told me to but whatever! We were all fine.

We got the ok from the ped to let him sleep through at his 2 week check up.

If I had a healthy baby, I would never, ever wake them up to feed. Hunger is innate, they don't have to be taught to feel it. They'll tell you when they're hungry.

I only set alarms for the first week or 2. He was extremely sleepy at first and lost too much weight. At some point I realized one of us (LO, DH, myself) was going to wake in the MOTN anyway. It always happens around 3-4 am.

ETA: I still make a point to wake him during the day if he goes more than 3 hours. Lately he spends too much time awake late in the evening and I'm trying to help him figure out day vs night.

My first LO didn't have this "problem". With my second (born in a different country), the ped said there was no reason to wake her at night as long as she ate every 3-4 hours during the day.

At 2 weeks when he was back to birth weight.
