LO is almost 6 months old and we haven't tried a sippy cup yet. She doesn't care for a bottle but I have a good amount of BM I would rather not waste. I was thinking of trying out a sippy cup with BM in it, but not sure if I should.
When did your LO start using a sippy cup and how did it go?

i can't afford to waste a drop of breastmilk either, i just put a little water in a sippy cup to get him used to using the cup.

I think around 7 months? It went well. We used one with a spout to start, but once she got the hang of it she preferred the straw. I gave her BM in it occasionally, but beware - the ones with the spouts can leak a LOT. Once Liv figured out that water goes in them as well, she lost interest in BM being in them and only wanted the water. That was around 10 months Id say

Interested to hear answers. Our pedi told us we could start using one now. I think we're going to get one of the straw ones, but I'm probably going to wait until this teething session is over because I imagine all he'd do is chew on it.

We don't have any straw ones yet, does anyone know the benefit to using one over the other? (straw vs spout) or is it just a preference?

@Bao: I think its a matter of preference to be honest, but I dont know. Once Liv used a straw cup, she never went back to the spout ones. You just have to start with one thats easy to suck out of. Some of them are difficult for even me to suck on, so introduce an easy one like ZoLi or something.

We introduced a sippy at 5mo but it ddin't really work and then we did the playtex straw cup at 6mo and he really took to that. I used water at first b/c i didn't want to 'waste' any milk but now that he is used to it he'll take either in the cup.

LO didn't care for sippy cups so we went to straw cups at around 7 months.

@Bao: there was a thread about straw vs. sippy last night but I'm too lazy to find it for you! Sorry! Basically, the pros of using a straw cup vs. the sippy are:
-you can stick a straw into any glass / drink when you're out
-sucking on a straw helps with tongue positioning and muscle development for speech
Oh, and my LO started using a sippy at 5.5-6 months and the straw at 10.5 months.
