I grew up in Mass. and we always went back to school around Labor Day. Now I live in TN and the kids go back to school in early August which is crazy to me!

I grew up where it was the Wednesday after Labor Day.

At my school, teachers go back August 7 and kids start August 14.

My neighbor's daughter just started Tuesday. She's in a year round school. I think Traditional schools start back two weeks before Labor Day.

August 25. When I was younger we use to start school the very beginning of August, but then sometime (maybe when I was in high school) they made a rule it can't start before the 25th, so I think its always the 25th now.

Always the day after labor day here in the maritimes. As a teacher we go back the week before to get the classrooms set up, meetings, etc.
August seems so early! This is the first year I won't be going "back to school", mat leave instead. It's very bittersweet!

In Florida, school starts back mid-August. I grew up in Alabama and it was always right around that same time.

It was always around August 18th (my BFF's birthday always seemed to fall on the first day of school!)

Schools around here start in the end of August. When I was a kid they started after Labor day. August seems early!

End of August, usually the week before Labor Day. We live in a touristy place, so school starts later so that high school kids can continue their summer jobs until most of the tourists are gone. I remember a couple of years when I was in school when school stated at the very beginning of August. About 5-10 years ago, the state made it a law that school doesn't start before August 25.

Most of the public schools go back the week before labor day. Seems like most of the private schools go back after labor day though.
