When did you stop swaddling your LO? DD wakes up as soon as we lay her down if she's not swaddled. But here lately whenever I go to check on her during naps or night time, she has loosened her swaddle to where she puts her arms and blanket up over her mouth, and sometimes has them totally free. She's 12 weeks old, and I'd like to start trying to stop swaddling, but I'm not sure how to start.

we stopped at 4 months, but olive was born a month early. she kept breaking out of the swaddle, so we went cold turkey.

My lo is just about at that point too, shes 2 months. When I go into check her she always has at least 1 arm free if not both. I'm thinking about trying sleep sacks next..,

This is such a timely post! I really think DS is ready to be swaddle weaned but my efforts (first at the cold turkey approach and then at the one arm out approach) both caused massive crying fests in a baby who rarely cries.
I'm hoping someone else has some other pointers/techniques for swaddle weaning, since neither of those worked for me.

My son did this between 2-3 months too. We changed our swaddle technique! you can look at my blog for a tutorial on how we do our swaddle!!

@Coco Bee: I'm going to try that tonight! I think I'm just super paranoid that she's going to roll over in her sleep and not be able to roll back over, although she's not rolling yet. You have really pretty hair btw!

@jennylynn: It works AMAZINGLY. He is 4 months old and has never once broken out of this. Even though he is just learning how to roll over (he can roll from tummy to back), he has never tried rolling at all in his sleep.
I would say that as long as your babe isn't even trying to roll while being swaddled, there is no cause for concern.

We stopped swaddling DS cold turkey at 4.5 months because he rolled over right after we swaddled him one day. We transitioned using a sleepsack. I tried weaning him earlier with one arm out but he wasn't ready. Like @Coco Bee: said, if he isn't trying to roll while swaddled, I wouldn't be concerned.
While we were swaddling, we used A+A blankets and did the "Russian" swaddle technique. It's tight around the arms but not the legs. It's supposed to be better for baby's hips and I think it helped when we transitioned to the sleepsack. We put a folded up receiving blanket inside for his arms (same idea as the miracle blanket but cheaper!).

We used the SwaddleMe wraps and stopped when she was rolling in her sleep. We stopped cold turkey by introducing a lovey to keep her hands busy..

@Coco Bee: We do that same swaddle after our son broke out of the two other ways we were swaddling him. It's very effective.

@Coco Bee: I really liked it! I never could master the way they did it in the hospital. I don't know what the heck I was doing wrong. I loved how secure the russian style was though. I would take a receiving blanket and fold it in half twice to put inside and secure his arms. It was great!
