Should I pump right after she's fed? I woke up engorged on both sides but she typically only feeds on one side. I was thinking of pumping the other side but I'm a little nervous she'll want to eat again shortly and there won't be anything for her... What would you do?

For the longest time I would feed one side and pump the other in the mornings. Luckily, with breast feeding it's kind of like a faucet, boobs never really empty. They're constantly making milk, so if she wants to eat again soon, there will be enough there.

I would pump one side while he nursed the other and then switch. I never had a problem with him being satisfied

I usually just pump one side. I'm nervous about the same thing plus I think she likes the flow better when it's fuller. She doesn't manhandle me as much when it's really full.

My LC said to pump a half hour after she eats. I pump on both sides and cross my fingers she'll be able to wait another hour before eating again!

In the morning I pump right after he finishes eating. He eats from both sides, so I just pump the rest (I usually get 3-5 oz). I also pump right before I go to bed.

yeah, in the beginning i would pump in the morning if i was still engorged.

I would pump the other side! My LO block feeds and that works well for us ! You don't have to pump yourself completely empty !

I pump while she eats on one side. I get a lot more that way. And she is more effective than the pump, so if she wants the other side she can usually get another let down prett quickly

Thanks everyone! I ended up pumping the side she ate on and then the other side to relieve engorgement and I got 3 oz to freeze for some freedom later :).

I only feed one side per feed as well.
My midwife's advice, and what I've been doing for the last week, is to pump after my morning feed. I first pump the side on which she ate and see if I can get anymore, then I pump the other side. So far it's been working for me and I haven't run into any supply issues. I have about 9 oz in the freezer and I'm ridiculously proud if it

In your case, I'd nurse one side and pump the other. Otherwise, the best time for me to pump personally is in the am before he wakes up.

Just to hopefully relieve some worry, yYour breasts are ALWAYS producing milk, so you never have to worry that there won't be anything left for your baby, even if she wants to nurse right after you pump. It might not come out as quickly, but there will definitely be milk in there that she can get out.

Also wanted to add - your baby will always extract milk more efficiently than a pump can.
